Renewal of Vows

Has anyone ever used the Oceania "Renewal of Vows" service?  The information Oceania sent sounds like a nice event at a reasonable price.  We are considering this for our Vista cruise in 2023.

We have not done this personally but attended one on the Serina while on a 31 day circumnavigation of Australia a few years ago (2017).  It was a very nice event held in the library.  This was the 50th anniversary for our friends. There were, I think, 12 of us in attendance plus the string quartet, the cruise director, the Captain officiating and a couple of the entertainers assisting. Afterward they set us up a table for 14 in the back of Tuscan Steak (Polo equivalent). 

 

The Captain told me they do this fairly often and have a routine.  On this cruise one of the young entertainers was very involved in setting this up and making everything go smoothly. All in all a very well done ceremony.

You didn’t mention dates in 2023.

 

Latest reports currently has the shipbuilder running 6-8 months late on new ship deliveries. The Vista’s shipbuilder is advertising for literally thousands of workers to not get back on schedule, but to not slide further on deliveries.

 

We have a June 2023 Vista cruise planned and currently give it less than a 50% chance of sailing, probably only a 25% at best. If this is a big event for you, I’d definitely have a Plan B. Good Luck!! 🥂

Agreed, also interested - we are doing the 2022 Christmas cruise on Riviera next year (covid willing) and I might suggest it to himself as its an anniversary cruise for us.

We received the below from Oceania when we inquired about Renewal Ceremonies:

 

Anniversary and Vow Renewal Package
Oceania Guests can now have the opportunity to renew their vows as well as observe and celebrate Anniversaries onboard. If guests wish to arrange this prior to their cruise, the Cruise Specialist must contact SpecialServices@OceaniaCruises.com (internal only) with the details. Payment will be taken onboard through their shipboard account. If someone wishes to purchase this in advance for the couple, they can purchase a Shipboard Credit (SBC) as a gift in the amount of $249.

All inclusions and costs are listed below:
The Ceremony (Vow Renewal & Anniversary)
The package is refundable up until 7 days prior to sailing. Once onboard the package is non-refundable.

Ø 20 Minute Ceremony will be conducted by a Senior Officer (Captain, Cruise Director, and/or any other Senior Officers who are available.

Ø The location, time, and date of the Ceremony will not be confirmed in advance and will be determined once the guests are onboard.

Ø The primary contact onboard for this service will be the Hostess. The Hostess will assist and serve as the overall event coordinator.

Ø The following offerings will be included when guests request this package:
· 1 Bottle of Veuve Cliquot Champagne during the ceremony.
· Wedding or Vow Renewal Themed Cake
· Small White Boutonniere for the Groom (flowers will change based on local offerings.)
· Small Token Bridal Bouquet with fresh-cut flowers (flower offering will change dependant on local selections)
· String Quartet or Musician to play Back Ground Music when musicians are available.
· Attendance of Senior Officers when and if available.

The Celebration

Ø Guests will have the opportunity to have a dinner for 2 in one of our Specialty Restaurants. The dinner must take place at 6:30PM and the date is subject to availability. This dinner will not count towards their Specialty Restaurant dining allowance.

Ø Turndown Service – We will include a Box of Chocolates, Congratulatory Card, and a Certificate signed by the Captain will be included during turn-down service on the evening of the ceremony.

Cost

The costs for such events will be $249.00 per couple. This cost is inclusive of all of the offerings listed above. These charges can be paid in advance in a form of a Shipboard Credit or the fee will be charged to the guests onboard account.

Notes

Oceania Cruises reserves the right to perform the Ceremony as a group if the number of couples buying this service or the length of the ship’s itinerary does not allow us to conduct individual ceremonies. This service can be purchased in advance or it can be purchased onboard.

Procedures

Special Services will handle all vow renewal and Anniversary Ceremony requests. Special Services will include all details of the event on the Special Requests Updates that are sent to the vessels on a cruise by cruise basis.

$249 for "all of the offerings listed above" seems remarkably reasonable.  Surprisingly reasonable.

But don't tell anyone we mentioned that.

We might want to take advantage of this ourselves.  We often vacation (er, when we used to travel pre-Covid, that is 😠 ) at a time that usually includes our anniversary anyway.

Question:  The offerings include:

Do they actually perform legal weddings on board these days?  I thought that was all in the past.

(Nope, we don't need that, but it would have been pretty special!)
