I hope Omicron will peak quickly like it did in South Africa. I think it took about a month to peak in SA - expect the US will take a little longer due to holiday travel but it will peak and will calm down - that's a definite. And hopefully we go into endemic stage by spring/summer 🤩

There are people who would rather cruise when the mask requirements are relaxed and the mask requirement in the casino, even if it's limited to vaccinated passengers is turning off some cruisers. cruisegirl1 Posted December 24, 2021 #40 Share Posted December 24, 2021 I called earlier this evening to upgrade from a neighborhood balcony to an ocean view balcony I was told that my January 2 harmony cruise is 100% completely booked. There are no available cabins. Then the agent proceeds to tell me, “after all, it is a holiday cruise”! Holiday cruise – the cruise is January 2! m

Let's hope the variant leaves us like it did in South Africa, where the peak happened and it's on its way out. We we’re planning to go shopping downtown and then catch a cab to Megan’s Bay (Jan 23rd sailing on Caribbean Princess ) As for Omicron impact on Jan 23rd, my guess (hope) is that if we get a spike from the holidays and with 10-14 day recovery / quarantining, that this will all be over before we cruise. It’s not science but simple math. Keeping finger crossed Edited December 26, 2021 by Luckiestmanonearth
DevonfromAcme Posted December 26, 2021 #46 Share Posted December 26, 2021 Right now, it will only have been the excursions. There are two things at play here: first, the cruises are sailing at limited capacity. If excursions don’t fill, they don’t run. That’s why you are seeing excursion cancellations in advance. Second, ports are refusing entry to ships with Covid cases. St. Thomas just turned away a ship, but you won’t know until you get there for that, unfortunately. 9 minutes ago, Luckiestmanonearth said: Is the port stop cancelled or only the excursions ? That would really suck as this was the port stop that was the basis to booking this particular cruise My DW has been suggesting booking other cruises in the near future but I keep telling her that we should wait it out until things are normal . I mean what’s the point of booking a cruise when you don’t know if you’ll be able to get off the ship at any of the ports Edited December 26, 2021 by Luckiestmanonearth

The first cruise is scheduled to stop at St. Thomas, St Maarten, and Coco Cay. The second to St.Kitts, St Thomas and Coco Cay. I believe Allure (is that right?) cancelled the St Thomas stop for today. I hope things settle down by your cruise. DevonfromAcme Posted December 26, 2021 #49 Share Posted December 26, 2021 Well, St. Thomas just kicked the Allure, so they are not playing when it comes to Covid numbers. And at least according to passengers on the Allure, there's been no announcement to them regarding Covid outbreaks, so St. Thomas knows more than the passengers do. From the very recent feedback on this board, it appears that cruisers need to be prepared for changes at any time, and if there is anything very specific you want to see or do onboard or in a particular port, you may be disappointed. Take that for what you will.
