Bermuda at Night

God willing, we'll be taking a cruise to Bermuda in October 22. We'll be arriving the first night at 7:00 p.m. and spending the next two days there leaving at 4:00 on the last day. We want to make the most of our time there. I can find plenty of suggestions for the daylight hours but nothing for the evening hours. For those that have traveled there by cruise ship, do they have a curfew? And what would you suggest one do or see at night? TIA.

I mean it really depends what you are into. Bermuda is by no means a nightlife destination and it gets pretty sleepy fairly early on. After about 8-9pm things tend to die down quite a bit.

Where will you be docking? That will have a major bearing on what you have available (unless you want to jump in a taxi). At the Dockyard you are fairly limited to their programming but there are a few more generic pub options.

In Hamilton along the waterfront you have a few more options of places that are open later-- euro style dance clubs, pubs, etc.

We enjoy some of the hotel bars around the island which are going to be open on the later side-- there are a few at the Hamilton Princess which are fun. The new St Regis and Rosewood towards St Georges have wonderful options as well.

If you are looking for something truly late night-- like til 2am-- your ship will most likely be the best option.

The cruise ships do not have a curfew, that is  you can come and go as you please but Bermuda currently has a 12:30 AM curfew because of Covid but that has been an on and off curfew so I would not predict the situation for October 22.  As for evening hours you don't say where your ship is docking in Bermuda. Is your ship docking at the Dockyard? Hamilton? St.George? Keep in mind that given Covid a lot of info will be dated

I'm not sure where we'll be docking. The planner mentions Kings Wharf if that helps? How would I find out where they are docking? It's Carnival.  Thanks for the suggestions. I wasn't sure what to expect. I know with COVID things are very fluid. I've already had 3 cruises canceled because of it so I'm not holding my breath and know to expect anything.

Carnival will dock at the Royal Naval Dockyard at one of the two berths there, Kings Wharf or Heritage Wharf.

There are a couple of restaurants at the Dockyard but beyond that not much is usually going on at night.

Besides the two restaurants, Frog and Onion and Bone Fish, hoth of which have music entertainment and stay open late, there has been a floating bar with a pirate theme, a plank to dive off and a party atmosphere. Also at snorkel park in the Dockyard there have been "dances", and bonfires. Snorkel park is under new management so can't really say what they will have. But I would guess there will be night activities. Last but not least is Bermuda Fun Golf which stays open late. They do have a bar. The Dockyard is geared to cruise passengers so it is really cruise passengers off the ship. Most cruise passengers though seem to stay on the shop. The ships have loud deck parties and the ship casinos are open. so not much local flavor at the Dockyard like in Hamiltion or St. George.

I don't think Calico Jack's is there any longer.

It isn’t there now but that might or might not be permanent. I suspect it is permanent but it was basically on a barge that was towed to the Dockyard for four or five cruise seasons and docked on Heritage Wharf. It was not docked year around. Almost no cruise ships the last couple of years they would not have any business so logically they would not tow it there. I would not write it off for sure until there is a real cruise season and it is not brought back.

It wasn't there during this past summer when there a fair number of cruise ships, although admittedly not the number you get in a normal year . Crystal ran cruises for several months, first from Boston and then from  NY and NCL also had the Breakaway from NY. Viking Ocean had Bermuda homeport cruises for a couple of months which IIRC did call at Dockyard during their itinerary.

Google has it listed as "permanently closed".

Not a full schedule and ships not at capacity. The demographics of Crystal would not be drinking a lot and jumping off the plank. Same for Viking Ocean. Carnival and NCL. How many Breakaway sailings were there? It was not a normal year. I don't think I would take Google's listing as fact. If it is not there next May and June or there is a news article saying ti is closed permenently then I would take it as fact.

Normally I would agree about the demographics but these were not normal cruises at normal prices. in particular  Crystal doesn't do this type of "milk run" cruising and they really priced the product to attract people who would have never taken a Crystal cruise.

Regardless, there's essentially zero probability  a small business can survive when going 2 1/2 years without a dollar in revenue .

I agree with that. All I am saying is that it is the kind of business that could be revived when business conditions improve. Much more easily than a business with an infrastructure like the Glassworks.

Hamilton is most likely to have more to do at night.  However, as stated previously transportation from Hamilton back to the Dockyard might be problematic late at night.  Never taken a taxi in Bermuda (used buses) so can't say what that would be like.

They are pretty available in Hamilton-- you can nearly always find one at the Hamilton Princess Hotel. Theres also the Hitch app which allows you to hail one like an Uber and pay with credit card. It's just going to be on the expensive side back to Dockyard. Somewhere around $50 if I remember correctly.

The snorkel park beach near the cruise ship had night time parties. Loud music and tons of younger than us people, many islanders. You can walk to it. Entrees fees!

Snorkel Park has new management. No idea what they will have but I would guess there will be nighttime activities. I didn’t hang around there long as there were sketchy local drug dealers.
