Yacht Club worth 2K

Trying to decide if it is worth 2K to upgrade to the YC.   Already have a extended balcony and drink package.   So for the 2K would only be getting a sightly bigger room and additional dining options.   We are pretty social and mostly likely would use the main pools instead of the YC sun deck,  since the passenger counts are low the main pool should not be all that crowded.  Can have a lot of fun in the Casino/spa for 2K.

Also has anyone up graded at the port for a better price then the online offer?

Only 3  YC cabins on deck 15 show as being booked so I'm sure any offer we make will be accepted.

You can't upgrade at the port. You can onboard but at rack rate, no good deals.

We have been on 3 sailings since December and just because there are rooms don't mean anything.

We had 43 in YC on one sailing and the ship had 2000 passengers.

It seems you are happy with what you have. 2k is another cruise in what you have.

What did your current booking cost you? Can you book another cruise with that $2,000?

You are the only one that has the answer to your question. It is your choice not mine or anyone elses.

Having never been in the YC it is hard to determine if the value is there in the upgrade,   hence the question to those who have.   My choice but to make a decision I value the input of those who have done it.

Who will you believe the most? I am not trying to be funny or whatever, as it is your choice.

Just review the postings on Food and is it good or fair on MSC?

Everyone has an opinion. My only point is it is your money and would you cruise 1 7day or 2 7 day cruises with the extra $2,000.

I know what I would do.

What are you getting for your $2,000 extra? That was your question. I cannot answer that as I have never done YC or Haven on NCL.

Sorry!

I will now after 3 YC cruises in the last 2 months will never sail with MSC in anything but the YC.

I have also changed my upcoming Princess cruises to full suites.

We travel 200 days a year and we can afford it. If you don't care about an extra 2k, then definitely do it. Food is better in YC.

I hope that helped answer your question.

If you like the social activities at the main pool-the YC is so much quieter. There are no planned activities. I look at the YC as a quiet place....

Last month on Meraviglia we had a great group. We were all in the YC pool, in the lounge at night and even did some excursions together.

I guess it depends on the people. We like to drink and a few others did as well. We had a hiho time in the pool. Butlers we're bringing food and snacks, ice cream. Bar waiters were serving us in the pool. Great time, but again the people we met were a huge part of it as well.

Is the extra $2000 per person, or for the entire reservation?

I think YC is a great value at about $2000 per person for a week-long cruise.  We travel during off-peak seasons, therefore it's easy to find YC fares around that mark.  Is YC worth it at $2500 per person?  Well, you'll need to take into account the seasons, time off already arranged at work, kids if applicable, booked flights, etc. & etc.

Comparing to other lines, say NCL which charges $3k+ per person for its Haven staterooms, YC is a bargain anyway you cut it.

Be warned though: Once you cruised in YC, you aren't going back to "regular" cabins.

Hi!... Only you can decide if 2K for an YC upgrade is worth it to go or not for you. For me? Plain and simple: No. But there is likely another way to have it cheaper at the point of being a yes... Because sometimes MSC has some of those nice deals as a bid for upgrade system for quite a while from now, even before the pandemic. Bear in mind though that: If you purchased your cruise from a TA, you'll need to know if your TA's block is or is not electable to the scheme. If you purchased your cruise directly from MSC you must tell them you want to receive those deals. Once MSC is mainly an EU business, this is part of EU's "Digital Data Rights Protection Act". So; go to your client area, search for where you can manage your account and pick the relevant choices to make it possible. From there you'll receive upgrade deals related to all your booked cruises on your client account attached email address. As some of the others have said you might be able to have an upgrade inside the ship, if a cabin is available, but that will to be at catalogue prices. Have a  nice day!...

Just repriced my Seashore Jul 2 BB Cat w/All In Sale which is $4,232 for 2 people 14 days.

Priced out: YIN w/All in Sale $8,398 and YC1 w/All in Sale $12,918.

What am I getting for the extra $4,000 or $8,600?

To me I would rather cruise 2 or 3 times and keep the cabin category I have at $4,232.

I don't need a butler to unpack my bags, take me to the venues, bring me goodies, etc.

I will be able to eat as much as I like in the MDR or Buffet. It may not be as Fantastic as the YC, but

I'm sure I will still gain a little weight. LOL

This is my opinion and take on this subject.

Total agree.

Do what works for you.  Everyone is different.

Everyone who wants to cruise has their own goals and what they want the experience to be.

Depending on where you are in life, this changes over time. When we had small kids, we had different goals for cruise/ family vacation.
Finances , school and work schedules all factor in. Less time and less money.

We are now retired and able to spend more time and financial  resources to   Travel.

When we cruise alone, we value YC and suites on ships. Better food and drinks. Less time waiting in lines.
Yes, we are fortunate to be able to this.

But, also remember the  days in small cabins on cruises when we started out cruising.

Now, we want to go as much  as we can, while we can.

I agree with your opinion. Everyone must make their own choices based on their capabilities.

Do you only cruise MSC?

How often do you cruise?

Thanks for the comments and questions .

No, we also cruise NCL and Princess.

We like longer itineraries for cruises. Have done 21 - 40 day cruises before Covid.

Most recent,  YC  B2B on MSC for a 15 nt. on Meraviglia in November, for the repositioning cruise.

(unusual ports due to repositioning)

We cruise usually 2 - 3 times a year.

Before Covid, we cruised to Alaska every year, on NCL.

It is easy for us to jump on cruise last minute,  when cabins are discounted after school starts.

We are looking forward to some normalcy in travel, going forward.

Happy cruising to you also!

2K per person is about what a week in Yacht Club costs outright if you get the 5+15 discount and combine it with some other promotion.  Depending on what you have spent already, it might be a good deal...or not.  Otherwise just book YC for a future cruise.

I’m also debating whether YC is worth the splurge. I remember MSC sometimes send an email offering bids.  It’s worth putting a bid in. Does anyone know how to get a chance to bid?

i called msc this morning to ask and they referred me to my travel agent and he refers me to MSC!!

Your TA may have it blocked from you and is not telling you.

You need to have signed up for them to send you stuff.

By them sending you to your TA means they probably see how the TA has it and wants them to deal with you.

There is a link on one of the other recent threads

You are correct the ships are sailing at low capacity

The 4 day this week was about 1400 all in for pax and about 80 for the YC in that #

I know some YC folks went to main pools since it was so quiet

Specialty restaurants are wonderful and if you go--make reservations because some nights can be busier

We love the YC experience and for us, the quiet, the dining and lux service are why we book.

You are correct, that $2k would go far, even another cruise--as cruising prices are so low right now

I do know for a fact that trying to upgrade ON the ship is hit or miss. Someone this past week told me she has done it BUT an acquaintance of hers was told no...

Just because cabins are open doesn't mean they fill them-- in part because of staffing

At 80 or so for YC, thats almost 50% occupancy

while the rest of the ship at between 500-1400 per sailing is as low as 10% occupancy per sailing to just over 25% capacity....

So for access, you have less competition to bars/restaurants/casino etc

Thanks for responding back. It's nice to see you cruise other lines like we do. We also cruise Princess, NCL, RCI and Celebrity. They all offer something different. This year we are on Oasis B2B, NCL Breakaway B2B, MSC Seashore B2B, NCL Prima and Celebrity Apex. Airfares almost cost more than the cruises.

Like you we love to cruise!

Here is the story,

I used a TA on this cruise,  normally don't,  because the pricing had changed (gone up) on the MSC website.   The day after I booked it went back down to the price I got with the TA.   As is mentioned on here many times their web site is next to worthless.

A couple of days after making the reservation I got an email, addresses to me,  from MSC with upgrade offers.

The suite w/hot tub was starting at $500 so I made a bid.   However these seemed to be all booked.   After a couple of days I pulled the bid.

Then went back to TA and asked if she could get upgrades.   Answer was to no,  to try on board.

There were 4 up grade options and the YC balcony was $900 pp.

Last night went ahead and made a minimum offer for the YC balcony,   there are tons of them showing on line.

I have been on 100+ cruises and in all types of cabins,  we miss the level of staffing that you got back in the "day".  As  you all know it has gone down, down, down over the years.   The main reason to give the YC a shot is to see if the staffing even begins to match that of years gone by.

Bid hasn't been accepted yet so we will see

You said that the hot tub rooms were all booked so you pulled the bid.

When they bid on a higher cabin and get accepted, that in turns frees up that room and so on, and don't forget last minute cancellations.

On my 3 7 day YC sailings in the past 2 months there were over half the YC cabins empty and left them that way.  I had friends on board the first sailing I was on and their minimum bid was not accepted despite on being only 43 of us in YC.

Totally agree with you. We have been on 100+ cruises, too. Service, Food, Entertainment is totally different today vs years ago.

Now you pay extra for these things. People will pay, Cruise Lines will charge and make it seem like you are getting extras.

We accept changes and still cruise. We pay for what we think is worth it. We have a drink package, but don't need the high-end stuff since it comes out at the end the same way. LOL

Are physically still able to unpack. Find our way around a ship, to find a seat in the showroom and know how to make reservations. We are able to converse with others.

We want to Mingle with other people of all ages and from around the world. That is part of cruising.  Yes,  we talk to the crew,  too.

We shower, dress and sleep in our cabin. Don't need to have a cabin with 2 rooms and bathrooms. We married and we still share space. Love to cuddle.

OMG, I am .............

Happy Cruising,  spend your money and enjoy.

We do!
