How strict has port Everglades recently been on the check in time

In December, we checked in 1 hour before our time. No problem then.

On my two cruises in late 2021 out of Port Everglades, I just showed up early, turned in my luggage, and tried to take a seat on the benches to await my boarding time.  HAL reps insisted that I check-in early and I could not resist their offer.

 

Note that you cannot predict when you will catch a shuttle or taxi and they may get you to the terminal early.

Port Everglades doesn't care when you check in, as far as I understand it. HAL might, but there have been many reports HAL has not enforced it that much. They certainly didn't at San Diego two weeks ago.

Same with our Dec cruise.  We showed 45 min early and they were more than happy to process us right away.  Of course, that's probably because most HAL's cruises have been running at light occupancy.  Ours was only booked to about 40% capacity.

I imagine the port check-in situation might be very different on some other lines such as Carnival where they are often booked to 95% capacity.  At 95%, a ship like the Mardi Gras would have over 5,000 passengers, nearly 6 times our Eurodam cruise's passenger count in the mid 800's.

While HAL does not seem to be enforcing the checkin times at this time, I suspect they are setting up the ground work to do so in the future (as the ships fill up).  Just my opinion of course.

We were there in February. We showed up about 45 minutes early and they sent us straight through. It was lovely getting on the ship so early!

Our experience in December is that we were asked to sit in an area with folks with the same check in time and we were called when it was our turn.
