Auckland Hotels and airport shuttle

Recommended Posts

Auckland has shuttles and there is public transport  as well but as there is 3 people in your travelling group, a taxi (approx $45-70 NZD) may make it both easier and possibly more economical.

There are numerous hotels located near the cruise terminal, in the past we have used the Stamford on Albert St,  but it really is a budget vs comfort decision that individuals have to make for themselves.

Define reasonably priced!  Do you want 2 bedrooms or are you happy to share a room. Do you need luxury or self-catering? etc  As this is cruise critic are you getting on a cruise?

When are you coming? We're just in the middle of getting rid of managed isolation - so a lot of the 4/5 star hotels are refitting and are not yet available to book - but may have some opening specials. If you are cruising its too early to book as you won't be travelling until much later in the year

The transport is a bit easier - there is no longer an airport bus. So your options are a taxi or  uber or shared shuttle SuperShuttle: Airport Shuttle Transfers - which will involve a bit of a tour dropping others off.  Many of us would recommend an uber with 3 (assuming your luggage will fit).

Yup Stamford was /is a MIQ hotel - currently closed - may well be open again though before cruising starts.

The Hilton is on the pier, so location to the terminal cannot be beaten.

That's true. We got a silly cheap price at the  The Britomart Hotel last year  - its new across the road from the Hilton - above the railways station of  the same name. Really, really liked the hotel and the location - but its more for couples than trios - they have small rooms. Their restaurant is award-winning.

I've just spent a few days in a bnb apartment on the same wharf as the Hilton in Auckland - might be a cheaper option for a party of 3 than a hotel, especially if they want to do a spot of self-catering.

we will be cruising out of Auckland on March 25. 2023.  We are looking for a hotel at a cost of about $250 to $275 US a night. A room with two double beds would do for us. Also do any hotels offer breakfast included in the room price? Any help is appreciated.

When travelling in NZ I use Booking.com.

You should find a good selection to suit your needs.

Someone else here will most likely have a personal recommendation from past visits.

I used to use booking.com exclusively. Now I use it to find hotels and then I  book direct often. You either get a better room, breakfast or both for the same money I find.

Its too early to book for March 23 - even if you can you'd be paying the full  rack rate.

I love sky city hotel - it is a few minute taxi ride to the cruise port but what I really like is:

Really nice rooms

Large standard rooms

In the complex there are multiple restaurants - including many that offer breakfast

24 hr service

taxi rank outside

good connections to transport links

It is part of the casino but you wouldn't know that.  You could easily get a suite for the money you are willing to pay...

I second uber for three people, otherwise supershuttle is the way to go - you can prebook a place on a day and approximate time so when you land you get priority over walk-ins (I have been two hours out of my booking time but they didn't care!)

We just booked 4 days at the Hilton pre- Feb 23rd cruise. We got good price thru Hilton Honors and used points for 2 of the nights. Apparently a great location. You can see prices on Hilton website, remember prices in NZD not USD. To compare prices make sure you join the Hilton Honors program.
