Amber Cove and La Romana....TALK ME INTO THIS CRUISE

Yes I've been to both, nice ports, I'd go back to both. Lots to do at Amber Cove, La Romana is a little more challenging but still you have some options. In La Romana on Freedom last year we did a private beach day, we got on a boat off the pier and took a 20 minute or so boat ride to a small island off for a very serene beach day.

Amber Cove is an improved version of Grand Turk, though no beach.  Has a zip line.   I thought It was great.  The shopping area has a lot of similarity to Mahogany Bay. EM

The beach day sounds great! Was that a ship sponsored excursion or private?

It was a ship excursion. I don't see it on the website now. The island is Isla Catalina in case that helps you find it.

I love Amber Cove.  I won't lie we just hang out at the pool, but it has always been a very nice break for us.    We have been 4 times now.   I always want to do the 27 waterfall excursion but even my teens love the pool day and always decide they would prefer it.   One of these days we will do 27 waterfalls with Iguana mama!

We went to amber cove in march and had won nicely at the casino so went to the VIP area, which was nice. Had up front cushioned lounge chairs with our own server. I think it was $75. It was a nice splurge. Went to La Romana once and we did an excursion out to Isla Catalina. It was GORGEOUS out there. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Have never been to La Romana. Enjoy the pool at Amber Cove, makes for a relaxing day in the sun.

We did a snorkeling tour at Amber Cove, which was really good.   Compared to Roatan snorkeling, which was a 10 in my book, I'd give AC snorkeling a 7, but DH says he feels the opposite .... so YMMV.   The snorkeling excursion came with a decent picnic-style lunch on the boat, and all the rum punch you could drink.

So, my husband and our younger son are booked in a suite. My older son and I are booked in an inside room across the hall. (I thought the kids were booked in the inside room alone, but apparently I was wrong.)  So, basically, my husband and one son will go through priority and have a check in time of 10:30-11. My other son and I will have to go through regular at 11-11:30.  We could not get their early check in time and when I tried to change their time to our later time, even the 11-11:30 was booked up.  I always take a rolling bag with our two wine bottles and our diet dr. pepper. Normally, we all go through security together, but since we are split up, I am not sure what to do with the wine bottles, DDP, and the carry on.  Since we are flying in, bringing an extra bag just for this purpose is not an option.  Also, my husband will probably have his hands full with our younger son and I don't see him being able to just carry a loose wine bottle and case of DDP.  Will they let me through with my rolling bag carry on with two bottles even though the other guest with me will be under 21 if explain about the different check in times/priority thing?  Alternatively, will they let us all check in priority? Or can we all go through regular at 11-11:30 even though their check in time is technically 10:30-11?  How much of a stickler is the Seattle port for being there at exactly at your check in time?  I know at some places they are more laid back and other places they are super sticklers.

We booked a resort for the day in La Romana and were not disappointed , price included all access, drinks and food.  Had a fantastic time.  Amber Cove we have been there so often that we now just remain in the port and usually try to book a cabana

Go to "resorts for a day" website.  We have been to Dreams and I believe it was a Hilton and Wyndham we have done this 4 times and had a great time with absolutely no complaints in fact the taxi driver that took us there showed up each time on time to take us back to the port.  We also received great service at all the resorts.

We just got back from these ports. We did Carnivals monkey farm tour at Amber Cove and loved it. We spent a lot of time with the monkeys. Then we watched them make fresh coffee and hot cocoa from handpicked beans they ground themselves. After having a cup we got to buy our own fresh ground coffee and cocoa. It was very reasonably priced too. Our whole family loved this tour and would do it again.

In La Romana we did an all inclusive day pass at the Hilton La Romana. They had a beautiful beach as well as numerous pools with swim up bars and a lazy river. There were several restaurants to choose from. The drinks at the bars were really good and very strong. My only complaint there would be that I wish we had gotten to spend more time there. It’s so big you can’t really see and go everything in one day.

I personally loved these ports and would do them again.
