I would suggest, and this is my opinion, taking both Paxlovid  with you.   Paxlovid is hard to come by, but it can be found.  Pfizer has a web site which can help you find pharmacies that stock this medications.

This will help, but the current variants of Covid while less virulent, are a good deal more contagious.

Good common sense advice if you feel uncomfortable in a situation whether talking about Covid or any other contagious disease.  

I like the part if you wear a mask make sure it fits properly.  Most people I do see these days wearing masks don't cover their nose.  Seems like it is more for show than anything else.

Hmm, I wonder if my doc would write me a script for me to get some before.  I took it in Feb with great results.  I agree, I wish the cruises would be allowed to have some.  Though I also don't know what the consensus is on 2nd time effectiveness.  Seems like I read both ends of the spectrum.  Of course, I don't think it's clear about taking Pax if boosted.. though my doc had no issues with putting me on it.  Glad she did, even though I had mild stuffiness... cleared up in 24 hours.

Thank you so much for your reply. A woman not far away from me started coughing while I was standing in line to cash out at the casino. She didn’t even attempt to cover her mouth so I wondered if that’s where it came from but who knows. Thanks again for your reply.

Problem is that it actually has a rather nasty side effect profile and as such the package insert identifies conditions for which it is contraindicated and monitoring your physician should do.  Not something that should be used without a physician's guidance.  It largely would depend upon how your health matches up against some conditions that need to be monitored.

Yes.....you do need a physician who is willing to prescribe it.

A lesson I learned on the TA to Halifax, Iceland and the UK. At least two of the buses I was on had someone coughing out a lung while not wearing a mask. I believe that was why our lovely guide in Shetland kindly asked that passengers please wear masks while on the bus. Five minutes later, they were off again. 

 

I'm not so keen on large group excursions after this experience.

Thanks for keeping up the negative results side of the testing stats.  Seriously, I suppose a small number of folks reporting home tests isn't going to alter the official stats much.

 

Another thing to ponder is that a home test needs to be monitored for anything official, so why would the state count a report of a home test when (presumably) unmonitored?

Spouse tested Pos today.  We immed notified family who may have been in contact,

and called Primary care Dr.

Best you can do is Notify your Dr., and then let Doc take care of it.

I believe they report cases anyway, so your Positive will be counted.

Plus Dr. will have a record of your case. If you are a candidate for Paxlovid, etc.,

Dr knows your Rx's and can prescribe if thinks its needed.

I hope they are doing OK.  Had you been on a cruise or just something that was picked up around town?

 

Does your phone have exposure notifications? If you have that and you look in there you will see where you can report a positive test to the health department.

The second cruise was longer at 18nights there were also more passengers onboard and although it was still not a requirement to mask officers and crew were actively recommending it when moving around and using lifts etc… meaning that I would guess aprox 85-90% passengers wore them around the ship unless eating/drinking, we also had ffp2  masks left in our cabin for use incase we didnt bring any due to no requirements. On this trip we also had 2 mandatory covid tests due to the requirements of ports we were docking at one on day 3 and one on day 15 (so we expected higher figures on this trip due to the tests picking up those who were asymptomatic.) but by the end only just under 6% had tested positive.

This clearly said to me that although masking certainly will never fully stop it spreading it is certainly capable of limiting a mass outbreak onboard that the industries reputation cannot afford.

The problem is not finding it, but getting a Rx for it.

 

Most physicians will not prescribe it unless Covid symptoms are present and that this medicine is the proper one for the situation.

Most physicians are not willing to prescribe it because of its' serious side effects.  It is not something you take like DayQuil.
