I found the service in December to be much better than my June trip.

Dear Paphillyguy,

You posted this several times and I am intrigued. Very interested in what you found different. Could you be more specific ? Would want to know what to watch out for on future sailings. Was it passenger counts? Number of YC guests? Fear of covid onboard ? Certain staff away on vacation? We were on Feb, March, May and June and am planning July. Would like to know what I missed in June ? TIA.

Just disembarked Seashore a few hours ago. It was a wonderful 2 weeks. This trip on Seashore was better than our last YC cruise on Seaside a few years ago.

Staff was much more friendly and dare I say more attentive. The YC pool deck is larger with more space and 2 large hot tubs. One in the front of pool deck and one where the aurea 19 space used to be on Seaside. The pool is also better in that it starts at about 3.5 feet deepens to 5.5 feet deep. No longer need to tread water to stay cool.

One thing I missed is the pool attendants setting up your chairs. No longer the case on Seashore. But drink and food service on pool deck was excellent.

Still the case on Seashore. One just has to know how to 'grease the wheels'.

I agree except that all that I had to do was ask.

Perhaps there will be some response to the feedback and the pergolas will either be given a cover or MSC will go back to cabanas.

Ive got a 4 night YC booked in late January on the Meraviglia out of Port Canaveral.

Will be 1st time experiencing Yacht Club.  It's only an inside cabin, but I wanted to test the waters per say for a later YC longer Caribbean experience.

Don't plan on hanging out in the cabin anyways....:)

Here were my observations when I compare December to June.  And I want to preface this by saying we are not people that require a lot.  We do not make a lot of requests.  Also, we loved both cruises and the service was good in June.

We found our butler in December was just more attentive.  Our butler in June was decent but we did need sometimes to remind her of something.  For example, in December we wrote a note for the butler incase we did not see them that we would like Diet Coke in the refrigerator instead of coke zero, we would like a lounger for the balcony, and we would like 4 of each towel.  We never had to ask again.  In June, we did the same thing but we had to ask for diet coke a couple of time since it wouldn't be replaced sometimes.  And we had to ask for more then the 2 towels several times.  One day we had no wash cloths and had to call the concierge to ask for them at 12 am.   Our butler was always available to escort us to dinner in December and in June she told us each day to meet her in the Top sail lounge and she would take us up but only 50% of the time did she actually meet us there.  Now I do not need the escort but in December it just happened in June half the time.  Now this could very well be a product of a full YC versus a 70% full YC in December.  It was just the attentiveness that was missing.

The YC restaurant service.  The dinner service was very good and our waiters were very nice.  I thought the December waiters were a little more talkative but the service was great both times.  The issue was the breakfast service was not very good.  We normally had to ask for bread/pastries in June where in December they came without asking.  The main issue was the first 2 days for our party of 4 something was wrong our missing from each order.  We did talk to the manager and things got better the rest of the trip mainly because he switched us to a different side.  But it still wasn't as attentive as the December trip.

Now it all could have been capacity related but for us there was a difference in service.  It was great in December and good in June.  I still would highly recommend this ship and the YC.

Yes, we have been spoiled by many waiters in the YC over the years. Very few have returned to service, and even if they had we are never sure they could live up to the expectation of the service they once provided. Sometimes they may become complacent. So we never ask for a particular waiter. We think it is very important to ask our assigned waiter (gold tie) his name and to introduce us to his assistant (black tie), the first day. One morning our waiters were on 'assignment' ? We had a different waiter, not assigned. At the end of breakfast as we were leaving we tipped him $5 for his service. The next time this same waiter came running to our table at Ocean House to take our order for lunch, again we tipped him $10 for his service at the end of the meal. We find the more non-tipping guests the better our service no matter how crowded the venue.

To me, your experience indicates an inexperienced staff.

This is not a surprise at this time and in this economy.  Employees of all types, at any skill levels, are difficult to find and hire.
