Question on purchased insurance from TA

We purchased insurance from our TA for our Oceania cruise.  We tried to get air schedules from Oceania by paying the additional amount, but their schedules were fairly ridiculous with 2 or 3 stops or 45 minute layovers.  We cancelled their air and also plan to arrive 2 days early and used our own hotel and pay for our transfer to the ship port.  There has been a hint that since we purchased our own air our Ta's saying our medical piece of it is not valid for the 2 days prior to boarding the ship.  Any insurance we have ever purchased, normally gives 2 days before and 2 days after.  Thoughts?

No one can tell you what is or isn't  covered without reading your policy.

Your insurance that you purchased from your TA most likely starts the first day you were going to leave.  If you have added days before your original leave date, I would image your insurance purchased from your TA wouldn't be available on those added days.  Just a thought...

And the nature of the policy may be that you must insure the trip door to door for its total cost. 
One of the problems with buying from a TA (or a cruise line) is that the person you’ll initially ask about the questions is most likely not a licensed insurance agent.

Most insurance policies allow you to change your dates(as most policies have a specific date coverage)..ask your TA to amend your policy to cover from the date you depart until the date you arrive back home

We did almost exactly what you did for a cruise a few years ago.  Our TA was able to extend the policy to begin earlier.  The additional cost was very reasonable.

One does not have to purchase ins. from cruiseline or TA.  O policy is ( I think) 10% of fare. (Can someone verify/or correct me?)

 

Advantage is there is no age bracket underwriting, so if you are, for example, 65 and over you would pay the same as a 20-30 something.

 

I use a popular broker (on CC insurance category), and his policies are age bracket underwritten (and also, many policies have higher liability limits than the cruise line and TA recommended policies).

 

Have found it wise to use a travel ins broker,  compare policies and prices, and get advice.

 

The policies I have purchased can be the exact dates leaving and returning home (do not have to correspond to cruise embarkation & disembarkation dates.  Hope this helps.

O insurance prices are “per person” -not per cruise. NOT a good deal.

We haven't bought insurance from a TA in at least 30 years.

But our travel policies have always been flexible enough to add (or subtract) days or increase coverage.

You should get back to your TA and ask for a modification.

The original poster was not clear about exactly what type of insurance he purchased through his travel agent. Most people seem to be assuming it was an independent policy, whose effective dates could easily be modified.

 

But from what he says his travel agent told him, he may have purchased an Oceania policy, along with the cruise, through his travel agent. If that is the case, and he booked independent travel dates, it might explain why Oceania insurance would only cover the cruise itself.

Which company do you usually buy insurance from? We are looking for trip cancellation/trip interruption for upcoming 30 day cruise plus an extra few days post cruise. We already have out of country medical and will just have to do a few days top up with that insurer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Lots of folks (including us) are always looking for stand alone trip protection insurance that has adequate claim limits for longer and/or more expensive cruises and few exclusions (which is why CC insurance is often worthless for those needs). 

For the most part, insurers know that, which is why they usually only offer trip coverage as part of a comprehensive travel  policy (at not much more cost than a straight travel medical policy will provide).
