Canadian National Holiday

Justin Trudeau has declared Monday September 19 as a National Holiday. Right now it only affects business/government/etc. under control of the federal government. 

 

The question is how it will affect cruises should the Provinces also declare a holiday. 

 

We're in St. John on Monday. I guess we will have to wait and see.

New Brunswick had a law where they automatically recognize any national holiday so it will be a holiday in Monday. However, it will only affect government offices. Business can chose whether to open or not. 
I would expect it wont affect your visit too much.

As a note Nova Scotia and Newfoundland have made the same decision.

I would expect for the most part, any tourist aimed business will be up and running.

I live in St. John's, NL and the holiday is only affecting Government offices. All local shops and restaurants will be open.

Is this likely to affect national park sites - especially Louisborg fort - we are due to be in Sydney on 19th

It's all done by computers, so as long as you do it right and don't need human intervention, it should be fine.

The random testing site nearest YVR ... Life Lab on Russ Baker Way will be open according to their website on this holiday.
