How do the prizes work and what do you get?

I am assuming after looking at the rules that this "perk" is pretty much useless while on an Alaskan inner passage cruise as it states the game is only active while in International waters. Am I correct in that assumption?

I believe so... it is also only active while the casino is open IIRC

As far as I know if the casino is open then the prizes work. Personally I think you have a better chance in the casino itself

We just did this for first time we are onboard now. Day 2 we won a premier wine tasting event for later on in cruise $70 dollar value so we were pleased and surprised to actually have won anything. So it does happen.
cheers🍷

We just won the free cruise on our sailing.  Do you know how redemption works?

Great question. I am working through the process.
I am not exactly sure how they are doing it now but evidently we were supposed to receive a W-9 tax form (US citizens) and a form for the princes prizes to chose the #1 - #3 cruises you wish to go on.
It’s been a learning experience but a friend of mine has guided me through the process.  We hadn’t received any paperwork with winning so not sure exactly how this is all supposed to work but we maybe should have received some paperwork from the casino before disembarking.
We happen to be on a cruise but have a piece of priority mail coming and not sure if it is from Princess but we are not expecting any other priority mail. ???
Anyway, if you experience any issues, I will post all of the pertinent documents for you.  We are steps away from claiming our prize.

Ok.  Just got a call to come fill out w9.  They then gave me a letter confirming the prize and methods to submit either onboard or via email.  All handled by casino.  Apparently you have to claim the prize while in international waters per the terms and conditions of the prizes program.  Very complex!!

Congrats on the win!  So interesting about having the claim the prize in international  waters but that makes sense now that you mention it.

I'm on the Sky right now.  Casino is open.  Should I see something on my door screen to indicate that I did or did not win a prize when I entered?  I checked with the staff chat and they confirmed I am registered via the Premier package (but they don't seem capable of answering this specific question - I've asked them again, but figured I'd try here too).

Yes, your screen will show a better luck next time. That is all we saw as we didn’t win a prize but my BIL won an art prize. He went to pick it up and it was a picture of the ship. He didn’t take it as it was large and he didn't want to pack it.

I was just told via chat:

”The Princess prizes is no longer displayed on the door panel. You can find out if you won for the day via the Princess App by going to Profile then Prizes”

To know if you are registered or not into Princess prizes, you should see a little P in the upper corner of your door screen.  To check to see if you’ve won something, you can check that in your app.  If they wish to surprise you with a big prize, just know it may not be listed in your app for the surprise factor when they announce it during one of their gatherings.

You can also check if you have won a ‘Prize’ on your stateroom TV. I know the person who won the cruise DID have that prize listed in their APP and it also was on the TV under Prizes, so not sure they do the ‘surprise’. Initially when the game was first introduced there was a presentation in the Piazza with a ‘suitcase’ and ‘envelopes’ and back then I think the ‘winners’ were still anonymous, as some passengers names would be announced but they were not present. I believe only the Free cruise winner is now presented if they are willing to participate in the ceremony.

@PATRLR, Not sure if this is a very recent change regarding your door panel not showing whether you won a prize. Just off the Enchanted on June 29 and at that time, if you won a prize your door panel would flash for a few seconds Congratulations, you have Won xxx prize.

I believe it was December 2023, the door Panel display was modified. When the game was first introduced, if you were not enrolled in ‘Prizes’ you could enroll by taping the screen. The door display no longer has ‘Princess Prizes’ in large stylized text’ tap here to enroll. They introduced the new little P with a small star like symbol to be displayed on the door panel in the upper right corner to verify you are enrolled in ‘Prizes’.

I think many passengers did not realized they would be charged the daily ‘fee’ of $10 or $20 to be enrolled in the ‘game’. What was good about the display/game back then, you would ALWAYS get one of 3 messages, ‘Better Luck Next Time’, ‘Congrats you Won XXX Prize’, or ‘Game Closed Try Again Later’.

Now, if you do not have the Premier Pkg and want to enroll in ‘Prizes’ you have to go to Guest Services and enroll after they explain the charges and how the game works.

The display panel no longer has the ‘Game Closed Try Again Later’ message, sometimes you will not get ‘any’ message! I was told if too many doors are unlocked at the same time, priority is given to ‘re lock’ so no message. I have expressed I feel this is misleading as you do not have any confirmation you got credit for an ‘entry’ to the game. When you have reached your Maximum entries for the time period, you should get message ‘Try Again Later’ instead of ‘Better Luck Next Time’ or no message!

The current ‘list’ and odds of winning said Prize is available at Princess.com. The current Top prize is the free 7 day cruise for 2 in a balcony, value about $3,000, with odds of 1 in 100,000. I was told a free cruise is ‘won’ on every 7 day or longer sailing. I believe a photo op and presentation of the ‘big check’ is scheduled for the last day in the Piazza. I asked the Entertainment Director if most ‘free cruise’ winners opt to do this presentation and he said ‘yes’.

@wallyj, I’ve still seen a little door message from time to time but my most recent cruise with the premier package was back in April into early May.  When my DH won a cruise, there was no indication either on the door panel or app as I think they wanted to make it a surprise.  Needless to say, we were quite surprised when they announced it at the Captain’s Circle party.  But that was, indeed, a very special cruise and everything was done just a bit differently.

@PATRLR, I think your chat is misleading and requires further inquiry.

When I see in your chat the response ‘the Princess prizes is no longer displayed on the door panel’. I think the agent is letting you know about what I described as the door panel display change that occurred December 2023, see post #40. Where you no longer can enroll in Prizes by touching/tapping the door panel and Princess Princess was displayed in a large stylized font.

She also does not say ‘the only way to see if you have won’  is thru the APP. So I believe the door panel will still display Congrats if you have won a prize.

Sometimes the Congrats message is displayed so quickly, it is easily missed. She should have also mentioned your TV will also show if you have won a prize.

What happens if you never turn on your TV and avoid the app and most technology while on the cruise?  The only time we turned on the TV on our last cruise was for the safety video when we boarded.  Will someone come and tell you?  We tend not to go to a most of the events so would also miss the presentation unless we were explicitly told we should be there?

Nah, you'd have to see the discussion above the question that you can see in my picture above.  There is no question that I was asking about not seeing any form of acknowledgement of the Prizes play when I went through the door.   Also, previous replies in that chat did tell me to check the App at the end of the day to see if I won anything.   I'm not in a position right now to grab those screen shots and they might have some personal info if I did.  Plus, my experience is that nothing at all is displayed when I enter the room. (except the "P" in the upper right corner).

@Cruise Raider, I know this past June, the passenger who won the cruise said the door panel DID display a Congrats message and the APP also showed the Prize as did their TV. Passenger tried to get phone in cabin to take picture of door panel message, but it was gone in a flash.

I have not attended a Captain Circle party where Prizes were announced, also only during the initial roll out have I seen the presentation of Prizes with the suitcase.

On a cruise last year, a flower arrangement was delivered to my cabin. I did not order one. I went to guest services and they did not have an answer. It was probably a Princess prize and not sure the APP was updated to show this?

OBC should instantly post to your folio if you have won. Other Prizes will be delivered to your stateroom or you will be contacted to arrange pick up.

In our case, a dear friend of ours was in charge of making sure we’d be going to the Captain’s Circle event.  She said she didn’t know what we were winning, just that we were winning a prize there that evening but she never let on to knowing anything.  Job well done @HaveDogWillTravel!  We didn’t suspect a thing! They even had a table saved for us way up front but we hadn’t even given it a second thought.  We just assumed it was because she was booked in the Sky Suite and they just allowed us to join her and our traveling group.  Anyway, we were quite surprised and I love that so much!
Our cousins also won a free cruise one time and they had to find them (via their medallion) to retrieve their prize.

On our recent sailing on the Island, our door panel only showed a result (always "Try again" or equivalent) a maximum of 2 times on a 10 day cruise. We were booked with Premier. I contacted GS several times. They finally said "It's working in the background...if you win you will see it on your folio." Yeah...right! Who knows. We didn't even do well in the casino!
