Gift Certificates

Recommended Posts

I often get RCI gift certificates and choose to apply mine to my final balance. They must be redeemed 10 days before final payment date.  To use as OBC they must be redeemed 10 days prior to sail date.

What’s the benefit of buying them for yourself? Do you get a discount on them?

AARP sells them at a 10% discount, but from what I have read, they are a PIA to use. I don't know what sort of gift certificates the OP is referring to.

The certificate itself says must be applied 14 business days before sailing.

Yeah, OP here, I bought mine at Allstate.   They are so much harder to use than with Carnival, its disappointing.   But 10% off helps, so I fight through.

I just checked the fine print on 5 of them I have and they say.

To use towards the payment of a cruise, reservation(s) must be made at least two business weeks prior to the sail date and the gift certificate must be redeemed before final payment date

(at least 10 business days prior to sail date).

For OBC must be redeemed 10 business days prior to sail date.

I actually don't cut it that close when using them to pay my final which is always what I use them for.

My guess is you're referring to Gift Cards bought from Royal.

Or are you asking about ones from AARP they seem to be handled differently .  Those have to be emailed in along with the pdf of the email confirming your purchase .  Says you must all up to 14 business days for processing .

I bought them through Allstate, 10% off.  I submitted them via email (Certificate # and Pin).  Got a reply that they had been received.   Want them appllied to my On Board Account so that I can use them when purchasing excursions, internet, etc.   Some of those items have prices that change almost daily.  My first concern is whether I can do this at all??  I mean doesn't on board account mean on board???   My second concern is how long it takes to be added??   Should I just dump a bunch of certificates and hope I get to use them???  Normally not a problem, but this was a last minute booking and I'm not sure the prices will go where I'd like them to prior to us leaving???

Gift certificates redeemed for OBC can't be used toward pre-cruise purchases through your cruise planner. You must wait until you board to use them.

Good luck to you and enjoy your cruise.

I just bought $1500 in RCCL gift cards from Allstate assuming it would work like Carnival.  I just read the details.  Can you tell if if these will work on deposit with or without a travel agent??  Also, can they be used for payments and other expenses like gratuities and excursions?  Any adivce is much appreciated.

This was a fine print:

Well, I'm still waiting for my Gift Certificates to be applied to my account.   It's been 7 days now, and still nothing.   But I'm feeling more and more let down by them, and I'm worried that I just wasted my money.

If you are paying towards your already booked cruise, then I think they'll work.

But these are nothing like the Carnival Gift Cards which can be used for just about anything you buy, and can be used instantly!!
