One person fare

You mean with RCL you always have to pay for two people? I have gone on 6 cruises with NCL and two with Carnival. I stayed in regular cabins, not studios but I didn't have to pay for two people yet. They usually waive the solo supplement closer to the sail date. I guess not so with RCL then.

Carnival rarely waived the solo supplement.  A few times early covid, but none for me out of Galveston.  Rcl does have some solo cabins unlike carnival. Also at 340 pts solos get a discount.

I understood what you meant. I book solo and have to click through. As capacity goes up those solo deals are also about disappeared. I pushed for pts last year to get to the solo discount. They offered double pts and other incentives... when they needed to fill ships. Deals are now harder to come by.

Seems everyone now wants to cruise.

Nope. Everything I said was correct. NCL does have specific cabins for solos. Nowhere did I make any comment about what staterooms you book.

Once again, none of us see a very useful price on the search page. Would it be nice if you could enter number of pax, C&A status, state of residency, police/fire/EMT status, etc. etc. etc. into the search engine? Sure. But they don't, and the prices shown there are ample indicators of relative price levels if you are comparing cruises. It's not that hard.

Well, good luck with that.   You also don't see prices for 3, 4, 5, 6, whatever until you start stepping through the booking process.

It's a marketing gimmick.  They will show the lowest possible price (cabin and time) to attract interest.  Then you find out it's $x more to sail when you want to sail, $y more for the cabin you want, and $z more for the amount of people you want.

$210 IS a legitimate cost, and you CAN book at that price, on a certain cruise, at a certain time, in a certain cabin.  If you have two people paying their own way (friends), then they'll each pay $210 (plus taxes and fees which are listed on the page).

I've said it before and I'll say it again... if you don't like the way a company does business, don't do business with them.  Take your money elsewhere where you like how they do things.  OR, you can reach out to the company and complain.

If you're interested in how much it would cost a solo person to sail, find the cruise and cabin you want and double the price.  Add a little for taxes and fees.

NCL price has nothing to do with their ship having solo cabins that you were talking about. You pay half the price of a double occupancy when they have lots of cabins left. You pay twice and more than earlier if it's almost all booked out

The 340 mark, which I reached the beginning of last year, reduces my overall cost and especially when you combine it with the balcony discount and Casino rewards.

Same. I refuse to pay for an imaginary friend. I cruise solo in balcony cabins.

Using RCL websites is there a way to tell what the price is for just one person without having to check out? I am not seeing that option in the search like on other websites. So for me to get the price I have to click on the two person price and go through all the selections. Is there an easier way?

You change the number of passengers when you select a cabin category for a specific cruise, unfortunately Royal's site does not allow you to set the number of passengers to 1 when you're browsing. Virgin Voyages does this but most websites just automatically display the double occupancy pricing.

A solo passenger pays for double occupancy minus 1 set of taxes and port fees. Some ships do have single cabins, but sometimes they are more expensive than just paying for a double occupancy cabin.

I have traveled solo since 2010, and I look at what the cost is per day. It always is cheaper than doing a land trip and paying for hotel (which is also based on double occupancy), food, and entertainment. You just have to set your limit at what you are willing to pay a day to cruise.

Fortunately more solo supplements have been showing up of late. Not so much for RCCL, but MSC, NCL, Princess, Virgin and a few others have been leaning into solo supplements of late. Especially before the New Year there were a lot of them. Princess rarely advertises them, you just find them when you click through and you find your solo cabin is only a bit more than the single sailor price on select sailings.

To my knowledge, Celebrity is the only mainstream cruise line with solo balcony cabins on the Edge class ships. We have a friend who booked one on Beyond in a few weeks. I'm really surprised more cruise lines have not leaned into the solo traveler as it seems to be a growing trend in the travel industry. With the capacity on the ships, they could offer a percentage of cabins with a solo supplement and still come out way ahead.

Wow, I had no idea that they were charging supplements on solo cabins.

In July, Celebrity had a sale for Solo travelers, BOGO60 SGL NRD, that was a steal for Solo travelers. Right now they have 75% off 2nd guest plus $800 off the room, plus a total $850 onboard.  Great prices for couples not traveling with kids.

Watch out for when RCCL does their BOGO60%, you will need to be quick to obtain the cabin you want.

Can you tell me the difference between the usual 30/30 sale and the occasional 60% off 2nd Pax.  That is what it's called around CC Dynamic Pricing.🤣 Now if the promo was a true BOGO, then it would ne earthshattering.

There's no supplements on true solo cabins. But charging solo travelers the full or almost full price of double occupancy cabins has been standard since we started cruising almost 20 years ago.

Try the Quantum class.   Has had them since their introductions.  Specifically for solos, however smaller than the normal ones.

BOGOs are true buy one get one free, but always remember that the cruise lines adjust the base fare when they do this. So while it truly is buy one get one free (you'll see $4000 - $2000 in the fare description) that base fare was raised at the same time as the sale. So the net result to you is not earth shattering and in some cases more than it was before the sale. Just like the RCCL Drink Packages sales where the prices go up the higher the percentage sale. We see that one constantly. 🙂

The fare was more than half off.

For a solo traveler not having to pay the full price and only pay less than half the cruise fare, it's a bargain.

Think,  if two solo family members or friends travel together and  with the 60% off for Solo, they can get their own room and still the outcome is that it's the same as if they booked a room together, would you not get your own room?

The BOGO 60% or 75% is for two guests in the same cabin and applied to the second guest. Not 60% or 75% off your cabin.  Many people get that confused.  If the cruise fare is $2000 per person you will get 60% off the second $2000, not 60% off $4000.

$2000 First Guest

$800 Second Guest (60% off second guest)

$2800 Cruise fare for the cabin which you pay as the solo traveler plus all the taxes and fees that will add anywhere from $250 - $500.

And keep in mind some terms and conditions limit these specials to double occupancy only.

The BOGO 60% on Celebrity last July was geared towards Solo travelers, not the second guest, which is the current promotion.

I agree with the other poster. The 60% off is the same as 30% off both. You must not travel solo, it's not any better, it comes out the same.

Royal has studio balconies on Quantum class ships.

It really depends on who the cruise line is catering to.  On Icon Royal has no studio cabins and the majority of cabins are designed to hold 4 guests or more.

Good to know about Quantum class, I had no idea.

Icon is designed for maximum capacity, it's one of the first I believe that's been designed from the get-go to hold absolutely full capacity. Most ships have that 'maximum capacity' number but can't reach it due to limitations with the lifeboats. I don't think that's the case with Icon. This ship is certainly going to put a major strain on the food and beverage department on a scale that exceeds Oasis Class. It's going to be very interesting to see how this plays out in real life. I would not want to sail Icon for at least 4 or 5 months after launch. Let everyone else be the guinea pigs while RCCL figures out how things need to work. THEN I'll come on board. 🙂
