Absolutely it's clear the direction Royal is going in but what then is the plan for a 20 year old Explorer for example with just new carpets and a waterslide. Good question. There’s no sign of RC commissioning any smaller ships so when the current fleet of radiance and voyager class are retired, do they leave that market to someone else? Probably something for another thread.

In the latest SEC filing, RCI mentioned that it has a planned 30-35 year useful life for their ships, so like Grandeur, many of the older ships will just soldier on with little to no upgrades (the money for those will go into ever more expensive required maintenance). Probably something for another thread. Supposedly there was a plan pre covid to build a replacement for the smallest ship classes ( Radiance and Vision) and internally the project was known as "Destination" Class. I guess sooner or later this will come back up again. Focusing on scenic itinararies and places where the largest ships can't go is not only for the luxury high end market, hence RCL would not be inteligent if they will give up this market. Hence by around 2030 when it is time for the Radiance Class to leave the fleet they would need a ship with size somewhere between curent radiance /vision class and Voyager Class that will replace their duties.
