The 8oz filet magnion and 6-7 oz lobster at the MDR for 19 extra. Is that the same meat as the $39 dinner at crown grill?

is it the same minus the appitizer and dessert? to me the only difference would be the appatizer. I find the desserts in ship MDRs and even buffets to be fantastic. desserts seem to be the easiest to make consistency for large numbers of guests

Yes, same filet and same lobster as from Crown Grill/Sterling Steakhouse/Bayou Cafe.

Sans sides, appetizers, desserts.  It's just the steak or lobster tail... no truffle fries or grilled asparagus or creamed spinach or baked potato or bone marrow mashed potato or apps, desserts, etc..

Is the 6 oz lobster really lobster or something else?  A lobster so small is ridiculous.  There are regulations in some New England states to taking small lobsters and I would bet that a lobster of this size falls under the limit.

Do you really think the lobster comes from the US?

To my knowledge it’s $19 for either but not both. Surf and turf is more I believe it’s $29.

I saw menus from the Regal Princess where is was 29, 29 and 45...

Good point although my attitude is that if the lobster does not come from New England it isn't lobster.  In addition although it is obviously not possible on board a ship is that if I did not see it swimming before they popped it into the boiling water it still isn't real lobster.  I am fussy about my lobster although on my recent Viking Ocean cruise on the surf and turf dinner I had 5 or 6 of the pseudo lobsters.  I compromised my principles.  The fact that it was a no limit and no cost as many as you could eat dinner helped a bit.

Funny story here.  I come from Las Vegas which is the home of the all you can eat buffet.  For a short time and many years ago one of the casinos had a surf and turf buffet which did have live maine lobster as as part of the buffet.  I went several times and enjoyed it and I did not make a pig of myself.  I understand that the record for lobster consumption at the buffet was more than 20 lobsters which might have been one of the reasons that the lobster buffet did not last long.

It is only the tail portion, so it is a 6oz tail.  I think the CG/Sabi lobsters in the past were north Atlantic lobsters.  I am not so sure anymore about that.

Can you get the Salt Selections for the filet in the MDR?

I did order the filet once pre-Covid when it was listed specifically as from the CG.  I asked for some of the Applewood Smoked Salt to come with it.  When the steak arrived, the waiter served me a dish of Applesauce, so it got lost in the translation.  I often take my own salt with me since I have it at home and use it with beef most of the time.

The menus for the steakhouse used to say Maine lobster tail, they no longer do.  I would assume that they are using Canadian lobster which is cheaper than Maine lobster.

At least it isn't Florida "lobster".

Last Wednesday the MDR menu didn’t appeal and I have a bit of OBC, so I ordered the $19 lobster tail with red skinned mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The next night MDR menu was Surf and Turf. I had two of the same lobster tails for free.

I seem to remember the lobster tails served in the MDR on the 2nd formal night, not being much more than about 3oz.  If that is what they are passing off as a 6oz lobster tail, there is a problem.
