Rare JustinPlusLauren Posted March 10, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2023 There are many questions here about the best shore excursions to take while in Puerto Plata, and I've compiled a list of the best ones! There's something for everyone here - beach days, snorkeling trips, outdoor adventures, city tours, and even a couple of voluntourism trips that I personally really enjoyed. Check out the 10 best Puerto Plata shore excursions on my travel blog! Rare DENIE Posted June 14, 2023 #5 Share Posted June 14, 2023 Great post, thanks! We will be there in January 2024 and looking at one of the Resort Pass resorts. Is it easy to arrange for transportation or a cab? TIA! Dale
2Cruise4Ever Posted June 14, 2023 #6 Share Posted June 14, 2023 Thank you for these suggestions! We plan to stay all day at the Taino Bay aqua park and take advantage of the lazy river and pools.
Kellyann Posted October 2, 2023 #7 Share Posted October 2, 2023 What a great job you did by informing us of all things near Amber Cove. We booked a Carnival tour to see the cigar, rum and chocolate factories in 2 weeks. We enjoyed the Amber Cove water park at the port last year and it was wonderful so we just wanted to see more of the Dominican life. I've been to Punta Cana a number of times and truly love the country and its people.

We like to DIY in port. Is it safe to walk around Puerto Plata say from the ship to umbrella street?

Very safe feeling walking from port and around the downtown area (two 60+ yo women).
Rare mlmdaisy Posted June 20 #12 Share Posted June 20 Nobody's posted here in a while and my question is an offshoot of the last. We also like to explore independently of others on our cruise. This is a new port for us, even after many Caribbean itineraries, so I only have a basic sense of what to expect. If we decide to take a tour, are there operators marketing where we disembark? Is it interesting enough to walk around the general area, or do we need to take a taxi? We're not sit-on-a-beach-and drink types of cruisers. We're on a small Oceania ship (partially to avoid crowds). Do the giant ships visit here? If it's a rainy day is this a good port to stay onboard? Thanks! mets123 Posted June 21 #13 Share Posted June 21 RCCL Anthem stopped there this past January. Yes, there are tour operators when you get off the pier . On a rainy day just take an umbrella and walk around.
