Moving non-refundable deposit to a different cruise?

I have done it twice with the same non-refundable deposit in the last 3 months.  I was told both times by HAL representatives that the main criteria that must be met is that the total cost of the new cruise (not including port and tax fees) must be greater than or equal to the original cruise that the deposit was used on.  I used my original non-refundable deposit to transfer twice, but I had to find a cruise that met this criterion both times, which I did.

Well, I was able to do it.  🤩 Basically, it was sort of the same cruise but a little different.  I am adding on a Panama/South America leg to a transatlantic late next year (already booked) and canceled my Panama Canal scheduled for early next year so the deposit was able to be transferred over.  I am so excited!!  5 weeks aboard the Oosterdam!!  🥰

I have also done this more than once w/the same deposit. As mentioned, you just have to be sure the new cruise is equal to or greater than original. And it does take a call to HAL - you cannot do it yourself online. If booked w/TA, they have to do it.

I hope they’re still allowing moves without losing your deposit in 2024 and 2025. I want to change to a more expensive longer cruise and just transfer my deposit. This is HAL.

It may work if you do not get a Call Center person and make sure you let them know that new cruise is more money.  The odds now compared to 17 months ago are not as good. Please let us know what happens.

what is the reason for the odds not being as good ? If HAL's policy allows the transfer under their conditions then why would it be different ?   Is there some thing you know that you can share here ?

They have become a lot stricter in following policies of "Non-Refundable" then they did in the past.

I am so happy for you.  Glad to hear that HAL works with its customers.

17 months ago - HAL was scrambling to get cruises booked. These days - *much* less so!
