SDPadreFan Posted April 30, 2023 #476 Share Posted April 30, 2023 Alaskan current is pretty strong. Runs all the way down to the tip of Baja California. 2 pictures - first one in Oct with lots of warm water around Southern Baja. 2nd pic is now. Water is much colder and the whales have already left party town and are headed back north to Alaska for a serious snack.

Great for grabbing snacks for later, like cookies, or cold deli sandwiches to store in the frig. Absolutely what we do as well. First sea day, and we are loading up a couple of sandwich baggies with lido deck cookies. And larger baggies to hold a couple of cold sandwiches from the deli. Suppose you could even do that with pizza if you wanted, but I'm not so much a fan of cold pizza. I will mention that we NEVER try to take these items off the ship. They are only for shipboard consumption.

Rare EngIceDave Posted April 30, 2023 Author #479 Share Posted April 30, 2023 LOL Mr Karen was arguing with a slot tech that a slot machine is broken because no one has hit the jackpot, and he "put $300 into it last night and didn't win anything," and they should just shut it down because it's just ripping people off. and he said.....not kidding..... "I gamble a lot, so I know" Only thing missing was an angry "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" Door to balcony has a good whistle to it now. Sometimes a whistle, sometimes an angry kat. 1

I have seen this and also tupperware type containers suggested on other threads whining about the lack of late night food (the only reason I don't join that particular whine is because I can't stay conscious past 10pm anyway). Would you believe, instead of adjusting and hacking the system, several of the posters argued with this strategy with outrage: I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GO ON MY EXPENSIVE CRUISE VACATION AND CARRY AROUND TUPPERWARE JUST SO I CAN BE FED PROPERLY! or something to that effect. It seems a simple and logical solution from over here.

Midday check in Well, we're out of small bottles of water, only liter size and if you can believe it, some people are actually complaining about it.... From the FB group page (now locked) "Well another blunder by this ship they are out of bottled water. They only have the large bottles left its an inconvenience we shouldn't have to put up with. It's just another issue that thos ship is not ready to carry the carnival name." I mean, c'mon....Big baby I am losing my mojo in the casino and dying a slow death. This morning I realized the ugly fans on the ceiling in MDR, some actually have a purpose, ventilation. Heading at 45º into a direct headwind Little bumpy today I couldn't decide to do the "like" or "laugh" emoji because the info was interesting but "I am losing my mojo in the casino and dying a slow death" cracked me up for real, thanks for the laugh I'm glad to know it's not just me.

You can try to reset the balcony door seal. Takes 2 people. Hold balcony door open, then open stateroom door (creating a vacuum). Let balcony door close hard, then close stateroom door. Important to let balcony door close hard (not necessarily slam, but hard). Works most times, but not always.

But wherever we travel, we always have an assortment of ziploc bags, etc. (just in case).

Rare EngIceDave Posted May 1, 2023 Author #486 Share Posted May 1, 2023 I have come to the conclusion that the buffet and MDR food is cooked primarily low salt, which makes sense when you consider a majority of the passengers ages (and sizes). Most restaurants cheat by over seasoning (salt), but I believe the lack of salt in many of the foods onboard is what makes them flat or bland. Exceptions are the lido lunch options. I don't suggest going crazy with any salt, but a tiny bit wakes the food up some. Maybe bring some finishing salt with you to sprinkle instead of the standard table salt. Will improve your dining experiences quite a bit, IMO.

Obviously Carnival has no intentions of doing it and it's ashame. Carnival does offer something similar - it's called Princess. Is there no room service on the ship? Colorado Beach Bum Posted May 1, 2023 #489 Share Posted May 1, 2023 Dave - nice job with this review. We were supposed to be with you on this cruise but had to cancel as something came up. We could have still gone but would have had to debark once you got to Hawaii and we weren’t sure if that was allowed. Did you hear of anyone ending their cruise once you got to Hawaii? Rare EngIceDave Posted May 1, 2023 Author #494 Share Posted May 1, 2023 Something I have never had an issue with until this trip, they must have one HECK of a dehumidifier for these cabins. Every night I wake up a few times to sandpaper tongue and mouth. So much so, now my tongue feels split and have a little more. Never had that issue before, and coming from Florida, not something I am used to. I have read some travel with a humidifier and never understood why until now Seas have calmed, winds have died down
