camarowesley Posted May 16, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2023 We haven't cruised in several years because the cabins temps were too hot for us. We're considering trying it again, but would like to know if the situation has improved. We prefer to keep the temp between 65° & 68°. We always book a balcony room & keep the curtains closed to try & help keep it cool but it didn't help. Please don't respond with "ITS SUBJECTIVE". So any hot blooded cruisers please let us know if we'd be comfortable. Thanks in advance!
wemjam Posted May 16, 2023 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2023 (edited) I run hot too! What I have found is for the most part - if I am down to my undies I can be comfortable. There is another thread going about fans - I posted a link for the BEST little fan I have every seen in my life. I take this and it really makes all the difference. The rooms staying at the temp you mentioned is likely not going to happen all the time. And certain ships in certain locations of the ship run way hotter. This doesn't just apply to the rooms either. I find the casino is always really cool on most ships, but we sailed on one last year and it was HOT! Too hot to be comfortable so we didn't stay long. If the ship is sitting in port and the sun is beating on it (especially on your side of the ship) your room is going to get warm Better to be prepared with a fan or something to help. mz-s Posted May 16, 2023 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2023 Carnival considers a cabin temperature of 73 to be normal and acceptable. Usually I feel like my cabin is cooler than that but not always. I always bring a fan on every cruise, or if I am unable to carry a fan I ask for one as soon as I meet my cabin steward.
JCrewz Posted May 16, 2023 #4 Share Posted May 16, 2023 I doubt you'll get your preferred temperature, but I share your preference for a cooler room. I haven't had a problem except on the Carnival Dream and a miserably hot Aft Balcony cabin. The coolest they could get it was 77 degrees during the cruise and we were miserable, especially at night. They brought a fan, which helped...but a bad experience. I've taken a fan on my last two Carnival cruises and it does indeed make a big difference to have air moving throughout the room. You can pack one in your luggage if you choose one of the powerful, smaller fans. I think mine is a 9" diameter. However, if you know you are going to be uncomfortable in a 73 to 75 degree setting even with airflow, I wouldn't book a Carnival cruise or maybe any cruise. By the time you realize that you are sweating in bed with no covers, it is too late to change your plans. I understand why you don't want the "subjective" comments. Your preference is the most critical factor, and there are plenty of health conditions that make cooler temperatures very important.
nwcruiselover Posted May 16, 2023 #5 Share Posted May 16, 2023 (edited) I have found that on the newer ships I have been on, Horizon, Celebration and Panorama, the individual temperature controls in the cabins work quite well. Once you find your preferred temp, the cabin stays at that temp till you manually set it warmer or cooler. Not so much on Carnival’s older ships. Beebearlvr Posted May 16, 2023 #6 Share Posted May 16, 2023 All you have to do it keep a hotel room card. Leave it in the thermostat and you should be able to maintain a livable temp. Worked for our are last 3 cruises......Mardi Gras, Glory and Vista.
mrpayroll Posted May 16, 2023 #7 Share Posted May 16, 2023 When we enter our cabin i turn the dial to coldest setting. In a few hours it is pretty darn cold. I then adjust the setting to a little warmer and am satisfied.
Itried4498 Posted May 16, 2023 #8 Share Posted May 16, 2023 I like the room ice cold as well. We've traveled the Miracle, Radiance and Panorama multiple times each since the restart and haven't had any problems keeping the room cold. We took the Crown Princess to Hawaii for Christmas, and despite the temps outside being in the 40s at night and the temp setting at its lowest, the room was always warm - unbearably warm for me to sleep. Multiple calls to maintenance yielded that the a/c was working fine until I had a hissy fit then they were finally able to get it to cool. Would've keep the balcony open had it not been for high winds that created a vacuum.
Rare AllgoodOnTheRoad Posted May 16, 2023 #9 Share Posted May 16, 2023 (edited) Nope, still hot. This was one of our only problems on our two cruises this year, we could not get the temp down to anything we would consider comfortable for sleeping. It was bearable and would approach something acceptable by early morning, but never down to what we would have liked. I remember when the cabins would get so cold my camera lens would fog up when I went out on the balcony with it. Looks like we'll be sticking to all inclusive land vacations. hard_eight Posted May 16, 2023 #11 Share Posted May 16, 2023 The Excel class has a Turbo button on the thermostat. Had a balcony room on the Celebration and it was quite chilly, which my Wife loved. Had a hot room on the Magic once, terrible experience.
LHARTWICK Posted May 16, 2023 #12 Share Posted May 16, 2023 In our experience we've noticed that aft cabins in general seem to cool better. We were in a forward cabin last week, and it wasn't as cool as we would like. We always travel with a fan.

We like our house between 65-68 as well. Sometimes I would close the balcony curtain to help cool off because of the way the sun was shining in. But the turbo mode really helped! We were comfortable on the Mardi Gras!
Rare MeganGC1983 Posted May 17, 2023 #14 Share Posted May 17, 2023 I don’t run hot blooded, but we did have a Lido balcony cabin on the Liberty that was ridiculous. I couldn’t sleep even without anything on. Just uncomfortable. Finally called guest services and they came up with a temp gauge, pointed it right at the vent and it read 78. They brought us a fan… better than nothing, but I’ll always remember how hot that cabin was.
knagl Posted May 17, 2023 #15 Share Posted May 17, 2023 To help muddy the waters here, we had a back-to-back on the Spirit this past December in two different port-side balcony rooms. Our first room got nice and cold, to the point that I nearly turned the thermostat a little bit warmer. Our second room was unpleasantly hot. After a visit to Guest Services (our steward was newer and didn't really seem to understand what to do about it), an HVAC technician came to our room. It was reading 76 degrees with his fancy thermometer if I remember correctly. He disassembled part of the ceiling of the cabin and opened some dampers to get some better chilled airflow. It still never got anywhere close to as cold as our first cabin, but it was a little more tolerable for the rest of the cruise.

Just off the Celebration and on the coldest setting it was like a meat locker in there. Had to adjust the setting.so it wasn’t so cold, and I like it cold.
