Um, it's ok in the comedy club but no where else?

The comedy club is an enclosed room where people know it's going to occur and have the option not to attend.  Not saying Carnival should be policing language, but there are a lot of us who would not want to listen to constant foul language while trying to relax on a cruise.  It's one of the reasons why we spend a lot of time on our on balcony.  However, Carnival should be enforcing no children in the serenity area.

I don't think she was saying there were actual children there.  She implied that it was adults acting like children.

First time on Celebration! Love it!! I’m a platinum cruiser and not shocked by much that goes on here. However, this week at the Serenity pool the “children” are out of hand. Lots of foul, loud, obnoxious idiots who need to be disciplined and removed.

they have a rotating attendant over the pool who does nothing. This is an all adult venue, supposed to be serene for relaxing.

so far, not happening. This will be a formal complaint when I get home. If you recognize yourself, please go to your cabin.

BetsyDoll....I don't know why you're getting such a stiff arm on this.  I didn't think you were talking about political discussions or sports teams.  Clearly, there are some words and gestures that constitute public obscenity.  In Texas, it is punishable as disorderly conduct (as a Class C misdemeanor).

You should expect for an adult pool to include adults only.  You shouldn't have to listen to a stream of vulgarities.  You were politely asking about a remedy.

Enforcement is difficult and everyone gets that, but it would be nice if Carnival's attendant would at least try to set some boundaries when kids are in an adult area and obscene words (see George Carlin's list) are being uttered.  There's no serenity in that.  I don't agree that you're too sensitive or just need to ignore obvious issues.

I'm taking my 17 year old nephew on a cruise next month.  I want for him to have fun in and out of the O2 Club.  However, he will be supervised and expected to mind his manners and show plenty of respect to his elders.  Most of the children and teens do great on cruises.  The problem children need some talking to and so do their parents.

On the Dream a couple of weeks ago, there were some teens that came into the gym dripping wet from the pool.  Several gym rules were quickly broken and a ship officer was in the gym quickly telling the kids about the rules for dress, for shoes and behavior.  He asked for the kids names and said he needed to accompany them to their parents.  Problem solved.

If you think the speech on the ship is vulgar you should walk down a middle school or high school hallway during passing periods when parents aren't around and only the teachers are.  Better yet ride a school bus! .  As for the adults--people say what they what when they want and don't care who hears.  If you don't want to say something yourself then why should anyone else?  Get some headphones and listen to what you want.

I’m guessing another cruise line might be better for you. There is zero Carnival is going to do about language.

Actually, years ago when I brought my BIL & SIL on their first Princess cruise, the language we heard from a couple of different groups hanging around near us was way worse than anything you could hear on Carnival.

Agree. We were on a Princess cruise and I don’t think the clientele is all that different. I mean it can be, but we went on spring break and we heard plenty of foul language and saw people acting rowdy. It’s everywhere.

I agree.  I always speak up.  If people are cussing and being vulgar around my wife and I, I politely ask them to tone down the language.  My wife and children have never heard me cuss - ever.  Have I ever?  Of course!  Not around them and not around strangers either.

If its in the Serenity area the enforcement should be about the kids being there period not what they were saying.  It is quite clearly marked as an adult area.

You hit on what absolutely can be enforced.

Hi @BETSY DOLL🙂

The BEST time to make a complaint is (In The Moment, During Your Cruise), not after..

🍹

This.

It amazes me the number of folks who come onto Cruise Critic to gripe about multiple issues about their trip, yet did nothing to remedy the problems in real time.

Was always taught that foul language are for weak minded people since they don't have the capacity to express themselves properly.

I usually smile when I hear someone curse since I figure that person is too stupid and need to resort to foul language...

Actually, as someone who does swear (not usually in public, though)  I subscribe to this theory:

I hope the OP returns to clarify. What I took from it was adults in Serenity acting like youths.

There are crew everywhere on the ship, if Carnival cared about these issues they would have been taken care of. The crew ignores it as is, so what good will it do for a guest to bring it to their attention?

Let's be realistic, a cursing drunk Karen is gonna escalate. You know it, I know it.

No one wants it to escalate, especially CS, who's gonna hear it.

So they ignore it, as should you.

It's their vacay also and if acting unrefined and uncouth is how they're comfortable, you can't do much other than ignore them.

Believe it or not, I have read studies that say that people who curse actually may have a higher vocabulary which is a sign of intelligence.  LOL

I find that hard to believe when they are usually using the same words over and over again--My ex-husband could say a whole sentence using just the F-word!  LOL

I am a foul mouth. I admit it, but I curb my language in unfamiliar or mixed company.

So to the OP's original point...

First, I think the were not referring to actual children - they were using that term to highlight the immaturity of the adults behavior.

Second, I agree with the OP.  This type of behavior really is unacceptable.  Why should I have to hear your vulgarity and obnoxious behavior.  It is my vacation too.  Now mind you, this is coming from someone that swears (in my own home or under my breathe or in the right kind of company).  I am a "you do you and I'll do me" kind of gal, but when your behavior intrudes on me - then guess what, it isn't you doing you anymore and I got a problem with it.

Carnival policing this is never going to happen.  They don't enforce the rules they have that are related to even bigger items then this.

However, it is a sad commentary on our society as a whole how many people think this is acceptable behavior.  It is just like all the other rude, self centered behavior you see every day.  Very sad indeed.

Good point.  The crew has never, ever done anything about anyone who breaks any rule.  Better to just continue to cruise on Carnival so that you have more stuff to post about afterwards.  🙂

I look at it as a lack of education, or a particular cultural environment.  I once stood on deck for a muster drill, and a couple of young fellows in front and to my left were talking and frequently inserting the F adjective.  I asked if they didn’t know any other adjectives.  They apologized and I didn’t hear another F word.  EM

You have never seen Carnival enforce any rules.  I find this hard to believe.  I have seen Carnival Security remove people from the casino and I have also walked by rooms where a security officer is sitting outside a cabin because a person is on house arrest.

Sorry , no way can I agree with consistent  cursing and vulgar language around others is anything other than low class. Everyone pops off once in a while , but out loud  consistent f  bombs with assorted body parts thrown in is really unintelligent behavior.

I was on a long weekend trip on the paradise once, it was supposed to be a Cuba trip that got stopped.. they wound up offering for next to nothing to fill the trip.. It was not the normal tapa booze cruise .. the lido felt like a prison yard and ‘my hand to god’. Someone was walking around with a F prison  shirt on.. it wasn’t bad for us as we were all guys , gambling and drinking , but it was the worst I seen , ever .
