kimmidwife Posted June 10, 2023 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2023 Due to recent cardiac issues and seeing a surgeon next week to discuss by-pass( and his cardiologist stating”DO NOT GET ON THAT SHIP!!!!”) My Dad will not be sailing with us next week. We have side by side balconies-Parents booked in 1 and 3 adult kids in the other. The plan was to get extra keys and have brother in parents room and Mon with the girls. My parents never get insurance. My travel agent was able to get brother in Dads place for $150.00.—and a refund of brothers fare. Any idea what will happen if Mom decides to stay home and is a No show? We know that she loses all but the port fees and taxes. Will they add more to brothers fare? Pyxie Posted June 10, 2023 #3 Share Posted June 10, 2023 Fare only increases for your brother if she calls and cancels, so make sure she doesn't do that and instead just doesn't show up.
Capemayjay Posted June 11, 2023 #4 Share Posted June 11, 2023 I’m in the same position upcoming. The question and answers were very helpful. I was just about to call and cancel 1 person in a 2 person room. Thanks again
Are.we.there.yet? Posted June 12, 2023 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2023 We had a second person not show up and we received a $100 fine. Port Chargers refunded, less $100.
lostsoulcruiser Posted June 12, 2023 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2023 I just experienced a similar event. My wife passed and I went on the cruise as a solo to celebrate our marriage. Carnival refunded the port taxes and fees and the wifi plan for my wife. My fare did not increase and no penalty was charged. I did file with my travel insurance provider, AIG Travelguard.
jenrock Posted June 23, 2023 #7 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Were you the main person on the room or was your wife? I am asking because my dad may not be able to go and he is main person for the room. So if he doesnt go, he has a great casino rate, does the rate change for the second person.

Some people say they have done it without rate changing. You should be prepared to be repriced.

Rare TravelE Posted June 23, 2023 #10 Share Posted June 23, 2023 She can be a no-show. I found it best to not mention it at check-in. I let Guest Services know once on board.
Rare lazydayz Posted June 23, 2023 #11 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Once past final payment, we do not cancel anyone unless travel insurance is in play. Nor do we mention it at Guest Services. Carnival already knows who is and is not on the ship. Always gotten a refund of their port charges and fees.
kimmidwife Posted June 24, 2023 Author #12 Share Posted June 24, 2023 When we checked in, they asked if mom was going to make it and we said no. When we got our cards to our rooms, they gave her a card. It worked to open the door, but we tried to see if we could get her free water and it wouldn’t work, the third passenger refund actually went to my credit card. I don’t know if it was because I was primary on the room? And my dad was the first listing on the other room and his spot is the one that my brother took in response to the question on the earlier post , We have not been charged anything else to my knowledge.

I have not personally experienced this, but from what I have read, if it is a casino rate and the person who has/had the offer does not board, the other in the room will be charged the full price. I would call Carnival and ask what would happen so that I wouldn't be surprised. Please post the info Carnival tells you should you call to ask. Thanks. I have heard people say that on here but have never actually read a report of it happening. Many casino rates in the terms do state that the person who received the offer must sail to get the price, but again I don't know if Carnival has ever gone back and charged rack rates if a casino guest no-shows.
