I've noticed at my Kroger that the soft margarine has doubled in price but butter is often on sale. I'm sure price has something to do with it. Butter is cheaper now. I'll take either. Even cold. JMAE Posted June 19, 2023 #28 Share Posted June 19, 2023 I don't look at any change as an "upgrade" it is just a change. Can't wait to see the thoughts on the VIFP program changes.

StephPS79 Posted June 19, 2023 #31 Share Posted June 19, 2023 Is the expectation to really be served warm bread in the MDR on Carnival cruise line? If so, and that is the standard for level of expectation, I can see why a lot of people may be disappointed...

It's probably way easier to serve warm bread at a Waffle House. They just have to turn around and give it to one of the 8 or 10 people at the counter, as opposed to serving hundreds (if not thousands) of people from a galley on a different deck. Besides, I wasn't aware that bread is always supposed to be served hot. I have been to 5-star restaurants that served room-temperature bread.

That practicality is pretty much what made it a facetious remark. It is one of those interesting quirks that short order diners can often out perform mid-level restaurants in quality and service, albeit with limited selection. Any restaurant with five stars that serves room temperature bread must have bought its stars. The bread in any starred restaurant should come wrapped in a bread warming blanket (even lesser restaurants usually wrap it in a napkin) to keep it warm.
mrplows Posted June 20, 2023 #36 Share Posted June 20, 2023 I would always got to the buffet to get real butter and bring it to the MDR. The real butter was a nice change, soft and spreadable.

twoboysforme Posted June 25, 2023 #43 Share Posted June 25, 2023 Reading through some of these comments has given me a good laugh. I am glad I try to steer clear of eating bread, because if the spreadability of butter was something that bothered me, hhhmmm. 🤣

On 6/14/2023 at 10:18 PM, NutsAboutGolf said: According to previous posts, it's simply margarine The "whipped butter" was just that - butter put into a mixer, with some water added as a softening agent, and whipped. We used to do this a restaurant where I worked. It just makes the butter way more spreadable, and it goes further because the whipped version has more volume that the solid one, so you spread less actual butter while still getting good coverage.

Sorry, I missed this when posting the other reply just now. Carnival (via John Heald, perhaps) stated all along the whipped butter was indeed actual butter, and I have had more than enough margarine in my life to note that the whipped butter, at least in every case I tried it, was indeed butter. How did you conclude it was margarine?

Correct but that's assuming they were using REAL butter before which seems doubtful as multiple sources stated it wasn't and even on John's post he said "real" butter

I can't say I've ever been out to a dinner and put so much thought into what I was spreading on my bread, as has been discussed here. I just spread and enjoy.
