hi

just logged on to P & O to book some things/sort out admin (Iona sailing 1st July )

P & O advises to bring face masks and hand sanitizer.

is this mandatory and do we need face masks aboard? or have they not taken that message off yet ?

Thanks

Things may happen whilst you are on your adventure.

Not mandatory at the moment, but we are taking some 'just in case'.

As Zap says, things can change quite quickly.

Have a great cruise.

That things can change with covid and whilst masks are not currently required the captain may impose wearing of masks if there was a high incidence on a cruise. We have recently come back from a cruise where it was advised that masks should be worn if you have a cough.

A new outbreak could happen, so P&O with their normal foresight want all their clients to be prepared.

You and Zap are quite right, and things could not only change on board but countries could also change the rules. We always take masks and sanitiser when going ashore, regularly use sanitiser and have masks just in case.

For a week long cruise on Iona, the chances of masks being mandated are negligible. The sound of coughing may increase as the week progresses, but all the passengers are off the ship before the effects of a mass break out are really noticed.

However, some people may choose to wear masks on occasion

Another line with which I sail makes it clear that should facemasks be required for any reason they will be provided free of charge. P&O should follow suite.

In reality that is what happens, we have had several cruises with five different lines in the past 12 months (including P&O) they all had masks available.

Things may change ashore, some buses may till require them. Just in case...is just in case. A few masks don't take up much room.
