Continuous '$50 shore excursion discount' for everyone: Prices raised the full $50 now?

Originally, that $50 discount was great.

Several free excursions!

Then ncl rapidly raised prices such that no more free excursions except for maybe beach transfers.

I was wondering when prices would be raised the full $50 to completely negate the discount and I think we've arrived.

That $29 kayak excursion at Great Stirrup Cay private island pre-covid is now $79. (I doing it this week)

So with the $50 discount, it's $29 again.

Note:

I understand why ncl still keeps the discount for everyone instead of eliminating it and lowering prices by $50:

Marketing

Keeps people from using 3rd party excursions

Sometimes the price that's displayed for the excursion already includes the $50 discount and sometimes it doesn't. That's the only difference I've noticed. Just like doing a mock booking for the cruise, I do mock bookings for the excursions. I haven't noticed an increase in my final cost for any that I am considering.

You're partially correct.  A true marketing specialist will tell you the quickest way to make a sale is to convince you that you're getting something for free.

I'm currently looking at excursions for my cruise, see the price and note saying $50 will be applied, add the excursion to my cart and only $20 is taken off with a note saying the discount has been applied.  What gives?  Did I miss some fine print somewhere?

Are you traveling and reserving an excursion with a second person?

No, just me.  The credit is also different on different excursions.  I guess I will have to call but I'm sure I will hear about some fine print I did not see on my own.

there are definitely a lot less excursion priced at $50 and below (thus being free after the discount), but that could simply due to rising prices for everything lately.  There are still plenty of excursions priced at $25 and less after the discount.  I have a cruise with 7 port stops next January, and I could do an excursion at each stop for as little as $77 total

If you also are getting a SHOREX discount because you're a higher level latitudes, the math on these can sometimes get a bit fuzzy.

Are you latitude gold or higher?   You also get a latitude discount % if you are and that is removed after the $50 credit,   The overall discount will differ depending upon the actual cost.

the discounts don't each go against the original price.  One discount is applied to the original price, then the other is taken off the new price.  So if you get a 10% discount due to status, then the shorex discount is now $45 off

@LloydJr, @JandC_Cruising, @dbrown84 I wish.  Alas this is only my second NCL cruise and I'm a wee lil Bronzie.  The Free at Sea is a $50 credit, here's an excursion I am looking at well above $50 that only gives a $20 credit.

I took it all of the way to check out with that $299 total.  On top of the higher prices to allot for it I'm not even getting Free at Sea.

I suggest that you call the SHOREX phone number at NCL and let us know what they say.

So after speaking with a rep that told me that $299 is the price and the full price was more than what the website is showing and encouraging me to book at that price, I asked to speak with a supervisor.  Took several asks and a long hold before I was ultimately told most of their systems are having problems and giving incorrect information.  This is due to a system merger (hence the down time and all of the IT issues since).  Also, that I should wait until Wednesday to call them to see if it's fixed. 🤯

Thanks.  With NCL IT, that actually sounds very believable.

On our cruise London (Southampton) to Reykjavik, there are no excursions at $50 or less.

I once started a thread pointing this out, and was really criticized for it. Someone even said I provided no proof, even though I gave an example and did the math. (Someone else did quote the I gave no proof and did point out that I had done the math.)

WOW !! I have called several times and the only answer I get re: website glitches is " We fixed it. It must be you".

Thank you for sharing this info!

Here is a recent sample (proof!) of NCL applying $50 credit and then applying a loyalty discount (15%) to the remaining balance (42.94) leaving a final payment of $36.50. All of this booked before the cruise.

Isn't this how it works for everybody?  I haven't seen any reports otherwise.

LOL. Yep, I think so. There were requests for documentation earlier in this chat. So I provided an example.

Thanks.  Those folks really need to just try it out for themselves.
