Open golf

 We sail on Sky Princess on Saturday. Was wondering is there any chance the golf will be on Sunday. We will be at sea on the way to Norway.

It’s just called The Open (no British)

It’s carried in the states by NBC and by Sky Sports in the UK 

Sports 24 which is the channel Princess usually has is carrying it,

As someone who is actually at the tournament it is referred to both ways.   The Open and The British Open.

Sports 24 should be on stateroom tv’s. Whether it will be on MUTS is a maybe

Maybe either option is okay in Liverpool but don't say "British Open" in Scotland. Very touchy subject.

No we were there for the Scottish open also.   Same as the US Open being referred to as Open in the country in which it is held.

We aren’t allowed to refer to it as the “British Open”

I work for the Golf Channel/NBC sports. The R&A requested that we stop calling it the British Open because that was never the actual title. We did that, we termed it something it wasn’t

The Scottish Open is a different tournament - it is not THE Open.

I am also not a golfer. I played on a 9 hole course once. That was it. I found I could drive pretty well but I don't think you are supposed to putt 187 times per hole. After that I had surgery on my neck. If I tried to play golf now I'd likely end up crippled. I could do pretty well at the 19th hole though... 😉

It's pretty cool as all the best golfers in the world are there and the current leader is an amateur. (Okay, two others managed to tie him but he was the first to get to -5 and for an amateur to be leading the field after the first day is amazing.)
