K2IE Posted September 11, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2023 In the past, we've paid $50 per day per person for Have It All. We're planning a cruise for next summer and under the current HIA promotion, which includes the Elite drink package as well as crew appreciation, it seems to amount to about $70 per day per person. So not actuall a deal, but they're building in the charges. Does HAL normally raise the price of HIA when adding crew appreciation or upgrading the drink package? If I recall correctly, last time we had a crew appreciatio promotion the price of HIA remained at $50. Is this going to be the new way of things or does it depend upon the promotion in effect? Not so much interested in theories, but if anyone has some hard facts please enlighten me. Thanks, Dan
dshroyer Posted September 11, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2023 I noticed that the prices went from $50 to $55 with the crew appreciation. If you wait until Black Friday they usually add the crew appreciation in for the $50 a day. That is what we have secured. But oil is going up, along with food, labor, etc. So the prices increase do not surprise me that much.
Rare POA1 Posted September 11, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2023 Ours was $50 for HIA+, but we booked under the early booking bonus. Even if it's an extra $5, it's still far less than the tips alone.
Rare Ken the cruiser Posted September 11, 2023 #4 Share Posted September 11, 2023 Thanks for posting this as we’re also still learning the new rules as we have been gone from HAL for a while. I just looked and some of the July 2024 cruises still have the HIA Early Booking bonus that includes gratuities, which by the way ends Sep 30. So I guess the Early Booking Bonus perk does not necessarily end at the 1 year out mark. Good to know. 👍

Is that a nearer term booking or one that is further out? I just checked for a 10 day Med cruise in 2024 - and I still only get an upgrade cost of $58/pp/pd CDN. (2386-1802)/10 - $58.40 (Canadian pricing) If I look at our med cruise in 2 weeks, the cost to add HIA is MUCH higher, but whenever I look for early booking cruises, it is always that $45-50US/day with favourable exchange rate to CDN. EDIT: Just logged out and repriced same cruise without Casino discount and HIA was $70/pp/pd CDN. I never realized there was a difference in the HIA add on cost with the Casino discount .. but I guess there is. oakridger Posted September 13, 2023 #15 Share Posted September 13, 2023 (edited) Note that you are comparing a Non-Refundable "Cruise Only" fare to the HIA Refundable fare. I think the more accurate comparison would be the Refundable cruise only fare (Advantage Fare?-which is not listed online, must ask for it) to the HIA Refundable fare. The difference will be less. ~Nancy Edited September 13, 2023 by oakridger

dshroyer Posted September 14, 2023 #17 Share Posted September 14, 2023 I have found that the drink package used to be set as a % of the fare. We went on a HAL Mexico cruise with friends. We had inside and they had balcony. Adding the drink package was $30 a day for us but $34 a day for them. (this was years ago) We figured it was because of the cabins. I think HIA does the same thing. Our friend was mad because she felt like she was being penalized for getting the balcony on the extras.

Thanks, Dan How about getting pricing for a non HIA rate (like maybe a mariner rate or the standard refundable depisit rate and then do the math in your head for adding it at $50/day compared to the actual HIA rate). That's how you can see if there's a better way to get the same thing, either for same money or a bit of savings.

I come to see only Signature, and no gratuities, so I call back and am told, yet, grats included, but only Signature and can upgrade to Elite on board. Ok, no biggie - until I see posts that it’s a crap shoot whether you can upgrade on board. So I call a third time and am told nope, no grats included and you’ve got Signature. Anyway, it is what it is, which I have learned is the way of HAL based on so many posts, and so I’ll just roll with it.) Edited September 15, 2023 by Hobar Punctuation. You can upgrade to Elite beverage package PRIOR to sailing. There is even a pre-sailing pricing. You can't "build" a package. You can have the Have itnall and what it contains. But you can't ask to please give me prepaid gratuities as example. The only way to get the Elite bev package as part of HIA is book something that is still in the Early Booking time frame. Which, for 2024, is quickly approaching its sunset. There is still an early booking window for 2025. Nothing with Elite is available in 2023. When offers are posted, *every* one has terms and conditions. Read them because all stipulations are there.

On my second and third call, I offered to pay more to upgrade to Elite (so I could avoid having to deal with it on board) but both times was told no. I know I can prepay grats, but posters have said no benefit and at least one poster said they pre-paid but were charged each day/night and so paid double, which then had to be disputed and more aggravation. I booked in August for March 2024. I am tired of reading stips and terms, exceptions and caveats, etc. This is supposed to be a vacation, not work. But I see I am not alone - far from it. Blackduck59 Posted September 15, 2023 #25 Share Posted September 15, 2023 @Hobar, I think part of the confusion is that "Have it All" is a specific list of goods and services at a bundled price; for some it is good value for others maybe not. There is an enhanced group of goods and services if you book your cruise early, this list includes the premium beverage package, the better wi-fi and "crew appreciation". There are also certain perks for booking a "future cruise" while you are on a cruise. This is usually reduced deposits and extra on board credit. We pre-paid gratuities on our last cruise, this will show up as a "credit" on your on board account. Each day "crew appreciation" will be charged to your on board account and the "credit will be reduced by that amount. If you buy anything onboard it will also use that credit until it is depleted. So they charge "crew appreciation" daily, any extra charges will be on your final bill after any credit you had is depleted. 1
