As far as cruising in four days, where did the OP say that?

He didn't say it, but it is a rather key piece of information he conveniently left out. Complaining on October 21 about a lower price for a cruise leaving on October 25. 🙄

Okay...but I don't typically spend time researching people's profiles to see all their prior posts before responding to a topic. Besides, my reply was not directed to the OP...it was a general observation in case people were unaware that this can be done after final payment.

I don't either unless it appears they have left out relevant information.

You can always switch to Royal with higher, non-refundable deposits, which you lose if you choose to rebook at a lower price. I'll stick with NCL. Their low refundable deposits, and easy re-fares before final payment, are about a good a deal as it gets.

Have only taken 1 NCL cruise but ready to book another one. I wasn't aware they had refundable deposits, are the deposits refundable up to final payment or some other schedule?

Your deposit is 100% refundable up to 90 days before, apparently.  Actually, so is the rest of the fare, for that matter, based on this schedule.

Um - that would be 120 days in the US - what you posted is NOT the US site

Interesting that I found that from a PC in the US...

Who knows why searches sometimes pick up foreign sites, it happens. Especially if you're traveling.

First clue is the /no/en in the web address - means Norway/english

Second clue is by the final payment date, 120 days, for US bookings.

We are diamond latitudes. Our cruise on the Encore last February dropped $525 after final payment. Our PCC was able to get us a FCC. We didn't even call and ask for it.  Had one year to use it. Applied it to our February 2024 cruise

And was it 4 days before your cruise?

  • 1 month later...

our cruise next month dropped $1000 ($500 each) earlier this month, so i called NCL and asked for the one-time FCC. it was approved, but for $2000.

last week the price dropped again and our cabin is now $2000 less than what we paid, so i called NCL and was able to upgrade based on the price difference (which should cancel the FCC).

the NCL rep encouraged me to keep checking up until 15 days out since she thought we’d be eligible for the FCC since we cancelled the first request.

update:  the fare didn't fall again, but even after putting the price drop toward the upgrade, after the cruise 2 $1K credits were available in our Latitudes accounts, so i guess we're sailing NCL again next year.

if you are after final payment, it is common to get nothing at all. sometimes you might get lucky to get a future cruise credit or a free upgrade

I only book cruises after final payment. It's the only way a solo can get a decent fare. For my cruise that just ended, I got an FCC when I saw a price drop 6 days after booking. My original booking was 5 weeks out.

I booked my upcoming cruise over the summer, FP was the end of September.  The fare for my cabin type, as a solo, has gone up $200 as of checking just now.  It's been fluctuating for a few weeks, and now all the Studio cabins are booked (I booked a regular inside as it was cheaper than a Studio).

Been there, done that twice with Studio cabins. Don't care for them so I only book IX Sail Away Inside cabins. Works for me space and fare wise. I have booked as late as 4 days before sailing. Plus I don't do cruises less than 10 days in length which gets me a better per day cost. It's great to be retired!

.Have any of you tried to get perks after price drop?

My normal experience is once you pass final payment date, you are out of luck.  However, for my next cruise (12-day Australia/New Zealand) the price of our balcony dropped by about 30%.  I asked my TA if we could get anything, and we will receive a FCC for the difference after we complete the cruise.

I am very happy with that outcome.

Edited to add we are sapphire status.  The upcoming cruise will be our 4th in 12 months.  They may be treating us nicely for that reason.

With the exception of one, we have always booked our cruises only after final payment date. We've always saved money compared to those that booked before. There are definitely outliers, but I hope everyone continues booking before final payment, so that we get the deals after! Of course we're not picky on where we sail from, where we go, or when we go, so we can find those price drops!

hey cruiseny. i usually agree with your position, and as i recall you are a travel agent. if youre not picky as to time, place etc, it will work for you. my wife and i are picky, and we've been spoiled. i try and book a suite whenever possible, because we like the idea of a butler, and i dont want to miss out on a cabin i really want. so i try and book as early as possible. i had a middle east booked ago  for october that ended in tel aviv. unfortunately, i had to cancel. right now we're booked on the trans atlantic rio to lisbon. we got a great deal (or so i believe ) on a 2 bedroom suite. 17 day cruise, the suite was 5600, less my military discount, less my wife's casino at sea discount, and less $500 cruise certificate i had forgotten about. im also planning on booking  the 14 day carribbean round trip from miami , jan 2025.

by the way, if i can be presumptuous, can you tell me the simplest way to get a brazillian passport? if it doesnt violate cc rules

Find a Brazilian who likes to cruise. Your wife may not allow this though.

And, you're right. Trust me! I work with my family and some of them are extremely picky! Ha, my style sure won't work for them, but I do know how to advise them properly. Sometimes I may want to be snarky, because well...it's me and I'm a snarky almost old dude.

17 days? I want a 17 day Transatlantic! Sounds like you got one heck of a deal. That won't be in the cards for me. I was away from work for two weeks and that seems to have bother people (even though it was unpaid time). Next time...well next time, it'll hopefully be a place with a wee bit more vacation time allotted to me.

Seriously though! Rio to Lisbon sounds great!! Especially as I am sure you'll be making a bookend vacation out of it. You only need to learn one language too.

well, i'll be 76 and my wife 75 when  we sail in april and retired, so 17 days isnt a burden. yes, we're booked into the sheraton grand rio prior to sailing, and i'll probably book the sheraton lisbon when is arrive. we try to stay in embarkation/disembarkation cities whenever we cruise.

and i am a snarky old dude and getting snarkier (is that even a word) day by day.

if you have 14 days available, we're looking at a 14 day cruise round trip from miami to miami jan 3rd to 17th 2025 on the pearl. prices are just ok, but they go to islands i love, barbados, st lucia, grenada, st maarten, antigua etc. .

st lucia has always been on my bucker list. maybe this cruise will interest you. if so, the 1st drink  is on me.
