Madtown_cruiser Posted November 18, 2023 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2023 We will be on a HAL cruise before Christmas. Does anyone know if a Tom and Jerry can be had on A HAL ship around the holidays? If not, I will need to bring the recipe for the for the batter for the kitchen staff! Rare 0106 Posted November 18, 2023 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2023 Is this a common drink in Wisconsin? I had to look it up…is this it? The Tom and Jerry is a warm, spicey, rum-based cocktail. The Tom and Jerry cocktail consists of a batter made of stiffly beaten egg whites, with egg yolks, butter, sugar, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, and cinnamon folded back in. That batter is added to a mug and then rum, Cognac, and warm milk are incorporated on top.
Blackduck59 Posted November 18, 2023 #3 Share Posted November 18, 2023 I really don't know what a "Tom and Jerry" is but I'm pretty sure your chances of getting the kitchen staff to make any batter for you is about zero. Even a small HAL ship has 1,400 guests. The kitchen doesn't want your recipe. I'm sorry if that seems blunt. 4

I have made my own batter, but usually buy it in the grocery store. Drinking one right now. Made me think of having one on the upcoming cruise. jakers Posted November 18, 2023 #5 Share Posted November 18, 2023 On some cruises when we did not have the drink package, my daughter would make some hot buttered rum batter and we would take it on the ship in a canning jar. A bottle of spiced rum would be ordered for the room and we would enjoy the drink on our balcony.
oakridger Posted November 18, 2023 #6 Share Posted November 18, 2023 Commercial Tom and Jerry batter can be purchased also. Bring some with you if you really want some. Get the rum and hot water at the bar or from room service! Tom & Jerry Recipe: 2 heaping teaspoons of Trader Vic’s Tom & Jerry Batter, 1 ounce dark rum or brandy, and just add boiling water, hot tea or coffee. Madtown_cruiser Posted November 18, 2023 Author #8 Share Posted November 18, 2023 I guess HAL doesn't offer Tom and Jerrys during the holidays, as a routine matter. I'll have to go with plan B, and ask to have them made special.

Might want to bring along this T&J recipe to help them out: For the Tom & Jerry Batter: 12 large eggs, separated 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 4 ounces (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened 1 cup sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground cloves 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 2 ounces dark rum
superoma Posted November 18, 2023 #11 Share Posted November 18, 2023 I sort of doubt they will make something with raw eggs. But what do I know. Will be curious to find out if this drink does get made on the ship.
