Apparently nobody wants to pay for loft 19

We have paid $399 for a Retreat Cabana on HAL Nieuw Statendam and really enjoyed it. I'd do up to $500 for the privilege.

Yeah I think it would greatly depend on the number of sea days. If there’s only 2 sea days I don’t know that it’s really worth it. Now for a TA or something I could see it. I would love to try one of the corner suites one day, that would be amazing!

it far exceeding my expectations, if you do it, do floor 15.

I can see the ideal candidate for these cabanas would be cruiser on a free casino deal in and inside cabin. Of course, they wouldn’t need it on sea days as they would be in the casino, but on port days where they have already been a zillion times.  Unless there is a shoreside casino…. But perhaps a happy compromise for a non-gambling spouse.  EM

Seems like there's definitely a market for it but Carnival is trying to figure out how to price it.

Many cruise lines (Celebrity and MSC to name two) are starting to try this "ship within a ship" idea and have found great success. I'm glad Carnival is trying to offer something more upscale to those who want it beyond the Havana area which doesn't seem that "upscale," or maybe it's just an old idea that needs refreshed too.

You're on to something here. People like the idea of cabanas, but they don't want to pay $2,000 extra. Instead, cruisers are absolutely obsessed over getting free stuff. Have a few rooms or whatnot, mark them up $2,500, and include "free cabana access." They will be sold out for a year.

What exactly is included with Loft19, for that price? We tried to get the grand suite on our cruise and would have been able to find out ourselves, but they were sold out. I just don't understand why a small segregated area with a daybed would be worth $2000... what am I missing? Does it include food, drinks? Personal massages? Belly dancing lessons???

Only Excel level suites have access to Loft 19 - so a grand suite would not have done the trick. With the cabana, you do have cabana attendants who will bring you lunch (off their menu), or a Guys burger. They won't go to Big Chicken for you (I trekked there on my own a couple of times). Also, they'll bring you champagne (well, sparking wine) along with frozen fruit balls (cantaloupe, watermelon, honeydew).

I don't see us splurging for one again (I think we've done it 3 times).

Not sure I was ever really enthralled with them.  But that is just me.

So, it says that those in Excel suites get the amenities and priority cabana reservations.  Just curious if those in the Excel suites have to pay the additional $2,000 to use a cabana.

Yes

As Jimbo said - Yep... they are just first in line to reserve them. I'm not sure how many days prior to sailing they open up for everyone else though.

I have never seen any data on it.  In fact, prior to the first sailing when we were on the ship for a tour, they had no idea at GS what the price would be.  I think it was set very arbitrarily and in fact their sister lines offer it much cheaper (Hal).

I will confess with our HAL cabana, it was a free interior that was later upgraded to a balcony on one side of the ship with our cabana retreat on the other side of the ship, so it was lovely to always have shade in one place or the other.

It was not a casino deal, but just HAL trying to get the younger demographic. I doubt we'll be invited to another free cruise. It was lovely to have the opportunity though.

They opened up today for our August 17 cruise on the Mardi Gras. So just under three weeks before cruising.
