Travel Insurance

Recommended Posts

I booked this cruise in October & got a free cruise thru the casino.  I declined the Travel Insurance at the time, so I only paid the port tax & fees.  Now', I'm 11 days out and decided I want the Insurance, but not because of canceling (I got it free), but more for if we need flights back from an island, etc.  It rejected my application because we are within 15 days.  Really?!

I was going to pre-pay the gratuity too, but can't find it.  I guess they don't want to take my money LOL.

They will get your money, one way or the other, so there is no reason to fret about prepaying.

can you try a pvt ins co.. for evac and  med coverage?

We always use private instead of X for trip cancellation, interruption, evac and med coverage. Not endorsing one or the other but we have used Allianz and Generali.

Check insuremytrip or similar websites to compare insurance options for your trip.  Even though you paid for your cruise months ago and sail in eleven days, you won't have any trouble getting travel insurance with medical, evacuation and such.  But check the limits of coverage for trip interruption and travel delay, considering you only paid taxes and port fees and travel insurance limits on those is often about half what you actually paid in trip costs, those coverages may only amount to a few hundred dollars.  But it is probably worth it for the medical and evacuation coverage.

Don't worry about prepaying gratuities.  They'll end up on your onboard account and will be charged to your credit card just like they would be if they were prepaid.  The only difference is when the charge appears...now or in a few weeks when your cruise is over.

Enjoy your trip.

You could also try GeoBlue, the international arm of Blue Cross, for medical and evacuation.  Very reasonable.

I second the endorsement of GeoBlue.   Much cheaper and better coverage of medical and evacuation.   I figure I can afford to lose a few to several thousand dollars on travel expenses but don't want 10s of thousands of dollars in medical expeneses.

I have an annual policy that covers my whole family. I find it cheaper than setting up a policy for each individual trip we take.

Same here.  I purchased an annual policy through Allianz for not a lot more than it would have cost for one individual trip.
