Cash out OBC in Casino?

Recommended Posts

I recall a few years ago reading that you could cash out the remaining OBC credit in the casino.  For example, you have $200 left on the last night and you go spend $10 in slots.  Can you cash out $190 at the casino?   Is this still a thing?

I've only cruised a few times, so please excuse my ignorance.  May I ask, why is it unfortunate?

Because the more people do this, the more likely Carnival is to start charging a transaction fee to charge your S&S on the slots, including for people who actually gamble with the money they charge to their S&S.

Gotcha, thanks for explaining.

I was sitting next to a lady on Panorama Thursday night who tried to cash out Promotional cash. A notice came up on the screen that said it wasn't allowed!

I know this is different from what O.P. asked.

Point is... the technology is there to block anything that wasn't played or won.

I don’t think you can simply cash out OBC.

You could probably charge the full amount of OBC to your Player Bank and then go cash out your Player Bank.

If you buy chips, say at the blackjack table, there is already a service charge (I believe it's 5 or 6 % but some may know better).

There is no charge at the slot machines to access funds, but any transactions done at a table game or the Casino Cashier’s Desk will incur a nominal service fee of 3% each transaction.

The other option is to go to Cherry On Top and purchase gift cards.  It isn't the same as putting cash in your pocket but they don't expire and you could then use the funds on your next cruise

You must play the slots before you cash out. If not, your card will get locked in the casino and you will need to go to the cage to get it unlocked.

There are two types of OBC called refundable and non-refundable.

An example of a refundable OBC is when the port charges end up being less than you already paid, so they post a credit for the difference.

An example of a non-refundable OBC would be the shareholder credit you are entitled to.

As the name suggests, the refundable credits can be refunded to you in the casino I suppose, or at the end of the cruise. The non-refundable credits will be forfeited if not spent onboard.

When they tally up the charges, they will subtract from the non-refundable OBC first, and items like gratuities, specialty restaurants, drinks, and excursions can be paid out of non-refundable OBC.

I have had cases where at the end of the cruise all my non-refundable OBC was spent but I still had some refundable credit left on my account. If the amount is at least $10 then Carnival will mail you a check for the unused refundable OBC shortly after the end of the cruise

This procedure has been in use since before I started sailing with Carnival in 2012. I doubt they are going to change it. (And if they do start charging a transaction fee it's more likely than not because they recognize an untapped source of revenue.)

It is possible that at any time Carnival will stop allowing folks to deposit a lot of money into their slot bank, spin once or twice, and then go to the cashier and ask for a cash out. It's fairly obvious what's going on when they see that pattern of behavior so it would be easy to put an end to it.

But to this point it doesn't seem like they care that much.

Yes, the "FunPlay" is coded differently and cannot be cashed out if loaded to the S&S account, the winnings can be cashed out from the FunPlay.  The machine knows the difference.  The credit count changes color on some slots.

They would be able to note if those people paid down their S&S with cash so maybe that is why.  The shutdown related large OBC pots should be depleted by now
