pinklucky61 Posted March 3 #1 Share Posted March 3 We just booked a 2025 cruise out of Sydney. I'm reading that we need a visa, but my sister says no! Anyone tell me their recent experience? Traveling from U.S.
Rare jwattle Posted March 3 #2 Share Posted March 3 You absolutely do. It's an Australian ETA, available on an app. Also, if your plane stops in New Zealand, you'll need an in transit NZeTA for there as well.
Rare mom says Posted March 3 #3 Share Posted March 3 (edited) Technically no, it's not a visa. An ETA (electronic travel aurpthorization) is the entry requirement for visa exempt foreign nationals. It is linked to your passport. You will need it for Australia, and another, as noted for New Zealand if you travel to or through there. Arizona Wildcat Posted March 3 #4 Share Posted March 3 Make sure you are on the official Australian Government website. Many 3rd party sites that charge lots and several scam sites as well
Rare PacnGoNow Posted March 3 #5 Share Posted March 3 You’re traveling from the US. If you are all US citizens, then you need ETA’s. You can get them online. Check your travel summary, go to the bottom of the last page. It spells it out and gives you links. They are very easy to get on the Government websites. If you’re flying an airline to or from Australia, the document requirements are also listed on the airline website.
Shorex Posted March 3 #6 Share Posted March 3 And, in addition to the correct information about the necessity to have the ETA, you would not even be allowed to board your flight from the US to Australia without proof of having the correct documentation. The ETA is different from a visa, but it is a vital document to have when flying to Australia.
Rare frantic36 Posted March 4 #7 Share Posted March 4 It is just like when I travel as an Australian to the USA I have to ensure I have my current ESTA.
