Rare VMax1700 Posted April 24 Author #102 Share Posted April 24 (edited) Today was Indonesian Tea at 3pm. After reading about how this event is greatly missed, we were looking forward to a nice event. Major disappointment. The only difference to the usual afternoon tea was the top layer of cake/pastry/sweet things. Sandwiches and scones were identical. Rare VMax1700 Posted April 24 Author #103 Share Posted April 24 Tonight we had dinner in Tamarind. For drinks I had a Lychee Martini and Ellen had Prosecco. With dinner I had the Morimoto brut rose. Food selections were the scallops and satay sampler followed by crispy duck with fried rice for me and mangolian lamb chops for Ellen. For dessert we shared mango posset and assorted sorbets. Here is the porn....

Rare VMax1700 Posted April 24 Author #105 Share Posted April 24 Tomorrow we arrive in Funchal on Madeira. April 25th is a public holiday celebrating 50 years since the Carnation Revolution in 1974 when the dictatorship was overthrown.

Quite sad, really. However, much better for my waistline, since I save my appetite for dinner instead ☺️.

Rare VMax1700 Posted April 25 Author #109 Share Posted April 25 Day 5, Thursday 25th April Good Afrenoon from Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. It has been a very pleasant day in Funchal. It is a national public holiday so many stores and facilities are closed. The holiday remembers 25th April 1974 when the fascist dictatorship was overthrown in what has become known as 'The Carnation Revolution'. Today, lots of kudos to HAL who provided a free (yes, FREE) shuttle into and from the city centre, which is also where a lot of the celebrations were startng to happen. Norwegian Star pax had to walk or take taxis and they are docked further from the port exit than we are. Also docked is Windstar Star Pride and National Geographic Endurance is at anchor in the bay. Here is where we are docked in relation to the centre. we are just across from the CR7 hotel and museum. That is Cristiano Ronaldo, famous footballer ooops! sorry!,soccer player, who was born in Funchal and played for Real Madrd and Manchester United among others.

Rare VMax1700 Posted April 25 Author #112 Share Posted April 25 Laundry: we left out our first bag of laundry at 7pm on Wednesday evening. It was returned at 10.45 am on Thursday morning. Shout out to laundry team via Let Us Know! Amazing!
Rare BetsyS. Posted April 25 #113 Share Posted April 25 Agree that HAL's laundry team is top notch! 😊 I don't do any ironing at home, so I love the way the clothes look when returned by the HAL laundry team.

Rare POA1 Posted April 25 #115 Share Posted April 25 Just a note: Those of us booked for a future cruise on the NS are getting 404 errors (or blank pages) on the menus in Navigator. Apparently, they have the URLs loaded so they are able to be accessed on the ship's intranet, but not from the external internet. I'm sure there's a crack team of experts working hard to solve the problem. In other geek topics, is the new wireless router you purchased working on the ship? Thanks! 4
Rare Vict0riann Posted April 25 #116 Share Posted April 25 Looks like you are having a great time, @VMax1700, Colin! Great information - but our laundry usually took at least 2 days, so maybe they are speeding things up. We enjoyed seeing you and Ellen in Cobh - just wish you could have hopped on board then! Just an FYI - we had a few difficulties with our account on the NS - so keep a track of what is going on, even after we got back the charge was wrong, all sorted now. While we were on board I spent a fair amount of time at the Front Desk...

Although i brought it with me i have not used it yet. I have found HAL's latest updated system very quick to log in and change the active device. Between that and using One Drive and Quick Share I have not found the need for the router. 2

Rare VMax1700 Posted April 25 Author #119 Share Posted April 25 Tonight's Special Local Menu in Lido. I asked Exec Chef how he obtained all the local produce when the markets where closed today. He told me that he ordered it a week ago! 5
Rare VMax1700 Posted April 25 Author #120 Share Posted April 25 Just a heads up to those who use small wheeled scooters/walkers.......Funchal's pavement/sidewalks are not smooth pavement. 3

I'm experiencing the same thing, but my next cruise is Zuiderdam. Seems to be a problem throughout the fleet vs just NS. Sue/WDW1972

It's always bewildered me that so little can go so wrong.

It's not like any of us want to pay for things we didn't purchase.

If I have an error on my bill (which I check every morning) I use the “Let Us Know” feature on the Navigator app to have it corrected. My bill has always been corrected when I checked it the next morning. Sometimes, guest services even follows up with a phone call to apologize for the error. This has been my experience on the Rotterdam, Oosterdam and the Nieuw Statendam over the past two years. 6
Rare BetsyS. Posted April 26 #125 Share Posted April 26 Correcting errors on the ship is SO much faster than calling HAL on the phone or emailing HAL after you get off the ship!!!!
