Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted May 15 #2 Share Posted May 15 When are you looking for? Could be some event in the area and hotel prices have increased across the board.

Capt_BJ Posted May 15 #4 Share Posted May 15 (edited) cuz the port is SMACK downtown in a big city ....... when Norfolk was trying to establish a cruise port the problem was NO PARKING AVAILABLE as the pier is smack down town. how's the parking around port of New York? On the other hand a place like Canaveral is a sleepy tourist town OTHER than the port ..... which is not to say parking is free ... but there are a BUNCH of off site parking options which don't exist in Miami, Lauderdale, Tampa ..... Cienfuegos Posted May 16 #5 Share Posted May 16 The date of your proposed stay and competing activities (downtown Miami concert, athletic event, one of the many parade events, etc can send prices skyrocketing. The area around Port Canaveral is notorious for that, with prices driven partly by space launches. It isn't unusual to have a $250 room with a good view to the north and east become a $600 room in minutes. SpaceX rarely gives more than a few days notice for proposed launches, so prices can be volatile.
9tee2Sea Posted May 16 #6 Share Posted May 16 like folks have said, supply and demand. With the new RCCL ship, that's an extra 6,000 plus passengers. If you have 2 big cruise ships , sailing away on same day, you have at least 10,000 folks that need hotels in the area. I once stayed at a very nice AirB&B a few years back for about $150.00 per night. Now it's close to $500 per night. So I now go into Fort Lauderdale, or stay by the airport. Also, EVERYTHING has gotten more expensive.
Rare wolft927 Posted May 16 #7 Share Posted May 16 Stay by the airport and its much cheaper for a nicer place and room. We like the Hilton Blue Lagoon MIA. We got a 1 bedroom suite with screened in balcony for $250. Regular room was $150. Downtown Miami for a basic room would have ran us over $300 at least not to mention if you have to park then add another $40, and they all have Resort fees around $20 to $30 per night.
MooNGaTe27 Posted May 16 Author #8 Share Posted May 16 We were looking to go 4/25/25 . What is happing than?
capriccio Posted May 17 #9 Share Posted May 17 It is the week following Easter (on the 20th) so the demand could be higher than usual. The week before and the week after Easter are popular public school vacation weeks.
KINGBOBOFTHENORTH Posted May 17 #10 Share Posted May 17 Find a hotel you like and book it with a refundable rate even at the higher price. Then continue to monitor it every week or so and if the rate goes down, rebook it. I've done this many times.

May 1 thru November are much cheaper, but downtown Miami is still kinda $$$. Its a seasonal thing.
Flymia Posted May 21 #12 Share Posted May 21 You are also book way too early. Wait a few more months. That is high season, so they will have high prices for anyone that actually books this far in advance. Book a hotel near the airport as a back up that does not require any payment and you can cancel. Start looking again towards the end of the summer.

These rates are very much a function of the date you select and not of today's date.
