OBSERVATIONS FROM THE POOP DECK JUNE 2024

I agree with you.  Both the line cutting and the escorting are very cringey for me, and other than the line cutting at embarkation (which I wish was a separate line versus budging through the regular line), we used neither of these services.  We were escorted off the ship in a YC group, but the butler took us to an exit that required no line cutting.

Everyone has their reasons for cruising YC. Ours were the larger cabins and less crowded dedicated pool area, restaurant & lounge.  Anything butler-related is not important to us.

I cruised YC many times and I tell the butler to cut the line all the time.I do it with a  smile on my face.I get the last cookie in the buffet line with the 3rd class people thanks to my butler.it’s worth $12,000 extra for that cookie

Easy.  When you enter a full elevator and use your YC card for priority service, everyone else is inconvenienced for your benefit.

That said, we're not going to agree on this.

When I get in the elevator I want all the peolple out of the elevator.I’m in the YC I paid a lot more than them

They are "special" only because I cannot resist a reference to My Cousin Vinny.

 Love that movie.

But I am very particular about my grits.  My wife, shortly after we married and she was still learning to prepare 'American Food' bought, without my knowledge, and served to me Instant Grits. It did not go over well.  I think that was our first serious talk about food as a married couple.

As a proper southerner, I have trouble believing a European cruise line could make proper grits, but I'll give them a try the next time we're on MSC to see for myself.

If you are not on before September 21st, I'll let you know as well.

I'm looking at booking an MSC cruise as we speak but the next one won't be until January/February unfortunately... My son is very serious about his football (for an 8 year old) and I'm one of the coaches so the only cruise we're doing during the season is a 4-day (Mon-Fri) on Utopia of the Seas so we don't miss any games.

I'll look for the answer in September!

Whether or not you are serious, that is everyone's dream. No one wants to get on a full elevator with coughers and sneezers and heavy breathers. But on the Seascape this dream of an empty elevator that delivers one nonstop to their desired deck is exactly what one gets. YC guests have the elevator override privilege.

Only one time did we summon an elevator and there were two guest already in it. They were another couple in the YC that used their override and the 'smart' elevator will only pick up other YCers.

Every Aerosmith fan knows heavy breathing on an elevator is not necessarily a bad thing.

Most of our elevator rides outside of YC involved so many people pushing into the car, that the overweight alarms would go off and the elevator doors would not close until enough people got back off (try being at the back wall of the elevator 😬).  DH & I must have excellent immunity because we survived with not so much as a sniffle!

The elevator override privilege is worth the price of admission to the Yacht Club alone. But it still smells when one gets on.

Exactly.  You get what you pay for.

I am affronted, annoyed, bent out of shape, boiling, cross, displeased, enraged, fighting mad, fit to be tied, fuming, furious, hopping mad, hot, huffy, in a tizzy, incensed about is not getting what you pay for.

P.S. We get what we pay for on the Seascape...

It never seemed to work quite right on Meraviglia (or quite possibly I was doing something wrong). We had no problem calling a priority elevator, which always arrived empty. But it stopped on other floors once we got on--never express directly to the floor we were headed to. Not a big deal as it was never very crowded.

Did the build a real “loo” for Ocean Cay YC?! 😁

They fenced off the right outside of Ocean House and have a small bulldozer parked inside this fenced in area. It is for toilets in anticipation of World America increased numbers. They have not yet broken ground.

You were lucky. We were on Seascape in November and the override was not working. When we returned in April it worked like a dream., as it does now. We pressed deck 16 and were directed to an elevator. The next guests to approach, pressed deck 16 and were given another elevator. Their’s came crowded and ours empty , except for the smell.

P.S. I must admit the YC elevator isn’t sweet smelling either but the ride is shorter.

Just rename the ship MSC Colonial America and hand out antique chamber pots to YCers for Ocean Cay use.

They would only take them back to the ship and put them out into the corridors instead of calling room service.

Perhaps a tussie mussie for your lapel, to push back against the malodor?

Three, less than one minute videos decribing changes still in progress by Mustafa Yacht Club director. Expanded kitchen/ Chef Sean (he is leaving in August). An open bar/tiki bar. on the far side of Ocean house are going to be new bathrooms, right now trucks and the one attached to kitchen. And to keep improving the beach.

Well I folded. Was it to save 28.00 on my cruise With the increase of the daily charge? If that works as an excuse…YES!  We winter in Texas so we now can drive to the port. I booked us 1/4/2026 in the YC on the Seascape. Our first YC experience was this past May on the Seashore and we are hooked. Ocean Cay was closed on our May cruise and our 2026 cruise doesn’t go there. But we are booked on the Explora ll January 2025 and that cruise does stop. Looking forward to that.

That will be very interesting what happens when Explora visits Ocean Cay. Which cabins get to use Ocean House or if everyone can go or no one will go to Ocean House. Those not in a Residence will definitely have ruffled feathers if Residences are allowed and they are not allowed. This is the problem with Explora as with Regent, why pay so much more, just for a bigger cabin ?

Explora is actively trying recruit all levels, especially butlers from MSC... My question is why ? The butlers on Explora are useless, just like on Regent.  They are not used to running back and forth in the sand, under the hot Caribbean sun.
