gumshoe958 Posted June 18 #2 Share Posted June 18 So if true, definitely no Broadway musical. And only one production show. I guess no need for two on 3 & 4 night itineraries, but still a significant cutback.

So yes, a cutback. However, the majority of these ships are designed for longer cruises. Oasis class has only recently switched to short sailings and Utopia was the first designed fully for these types of sailings. I wouldn’t be surprised if they added an additional show if her itineraries ever become 5 days+, but it doesn’t make sense at this stage.

Utopia will have 3 shows for 3 night cruises. 😄
TheHawk1 Posted June 18 #9 Share Posted June 18 Most of the so-called shows are actually audience participation, e.g. Crazy Quest, Friendly Feud, Majority Rules, Battle of the Sexes, etc. It seems Royal is counting on its customers to basically entertain each other now, rather than invest in real entertainment experiences.
Rare twangster Posted June 18 #10 Share Posted June 18 Oasis class doing short Florida is a challenge for a Broadway production show where the theater needs to be shared with many other activities. On longer cruises they make it work. Allure has struggled on short FL trying to get MammaMIA! and Blue Planet both squeezed into a short sailing. It's proven way too much on turning the theater between shows and on the cast. It also means there is one night for such a show and that means it's hard to accommodate 6,500 guests. Guests complain when they can't make it all work due to so much going on. Oasis class was originally designed for seven nights and each production show had two nights with two showings so a total of four times for each show. That just isn't possible on a three night cruise. 1

How much staged entertainment does one need? 2

True, but as explained in post #10 above, it has proven to be challenging. I wouldn't be surprised if they cut one of them if they plan to keep Allure on the 3/4 rotation. I'm also of the opinion that an Aqua Theater show, an ice show and a production show are plenty for a 3-4 night itinerary. Especially when you add in the other comedy/audience participation shows. I agree. I am going on three 4 day Utopia cruises within the next few months. It was nice that the Allure had the extra theater show. Made a 4 day cruise packed with wonderful entertainment.

Why Royal is putting their newest ship on duty for weekend booze cruises with accompanying cheap entertainment is beyond me.

There’s one answer… 💵💵💵 3/4 nights are far more profitable and carry a higher pppd price tag than longer cruises. Lately, Royal have become all about the money, so this is the most important thing for them and is why they have chosen this deployment.

Possible reason.

I was really surprised that I got an upgrade on Utopia from interior to OV balcony for $67 & $103 respectively for a 3-4 nites thru the Casino. Conversely, it cost me $820 (solo) to upgrade Odysseyfrom an interior to an OV balcony. Edited June 19 by nelblu

Just cost me port fees and taxes. However September is generally considered an off peak month in the prime of hurricane season so maybe it's a slow month for short Florida mega bookings.

Mine was one was the primary was free and the 2nd pays. It cost me $1,120 and inclusive of $400 in T&F. Heck, it cost me more to fly 6-7 hours R/T from Newark as compared to 7 nights of fun and inclusive of food and entertainment.
