Sailing on Crystal Serenity from 7/23 to 7/30.  Since there is no formal night, are the men required to wear jackets in the restaurants.

No jackets required. See you on board.

Crystallites can be a bit pedantic about dress codes.

If you are feeling a bit rebellious, jacket/tie or not, you could just go commando and quietly sit there with a smile on your face enjoying yourself. 😁

Don't forget your all white outfits! Sometimes they have a party one night even though there is not a formal night

Currently there is a white party on every cruise. Wearing white is encouraged but not required. Some people wear dressy outfits, others very casual. So pretty much anything goes.

I’m on the current Serenity cruise. Have seen very few jackets /ties. Many people dressed in white last night. Julia

Just got off the July 16-23 Serenity sailing. The one stipulation of the Evening Resort Dress Code either overlooked or ignored by many men was that  "Dark-wash jeans with no rips" are supposed to be worn "only when accompanied with a jacket."

This was routinely not the case on this sailing as many men wore jeans without jackets at dinner. As well, there seemed to be a wide interpretation of what qualified as "Dark" vs regular jeans

Full disclosure. I do not wear Jeans in the evening for dinner.

With that said, I had no idea about this until you posted it (and I pride myself on details) until lI went to the Crystal website and read what it said.

My guess is that it was overlooked by those who didn't wear a jacket.

Having been on the same cruise plus the one before, I'd say that any questioning about "dress code" on a seven day Alaska cruise with many, many first to Crystal cruisers might constitute a fool's errand. At least in Alaska, with the temperature, you're not as likely to see shorts, T shirts and rubber flip flops. I don't like it either, but I'm afraid dress codes of any type will soon go the way of the rotary phone! 😏

Correct. As this was our first Crystal cruise, and being detail oriented as well, we made sure to carefully read the published Dress Code. Thus, I wore a sport coat when in black dress jeans for dinner.

That said, kudos to Crystal for recognizing that black dress jeans combined with a smart dress shirt and sport coat make a very up-to-date style for men who have long given up their kakhis and polo shirt look from the 80's

I recently was in a company training where the dress code was "business casual" and I was the only man who wasn't wearing jeans.  I'm old enough to remember when khakis were the most casual pants you could wear in "business casual" before you dropped to "casual", but that hasn't been the case for years now...  And if that's the case for business casual, then resort casual can't be too far behind it.

Times change, we adapt...

@BWIVince I'm not sure what really qualify as business casual these days, but in terms of modern fashion for men, the dress black jeans (NOT BLUE JEANS) have become a look-of-choice, offering flexibility and smart up-dressing capability. By comparison, the kakhi pants with pale blue/yellow/pink oxford cloth button down or polo shirt look has been relegated to fashions of our past.

That last one looks like my husband🤣

DH will always be the one in khakis and a polo shirt. He only bought a pair of jeans (Levi's 526) a couple of years ago for hanging around the house. But he's 85 and when he was a kid, they were called dungarees and only worn on Saturdays.😎

True for the younger contingent, but I'm sure you did notice there are still a number of Crystal cruisers who were well into their adult years in the 80s. As a first year "baby boomer", I like being far from the oldest on a Crystal cruise! 😮

@Texas Tillie As a fellow baby boomer who was an adult in the 80's as well, I wore full suits, white shirts, ties and wingtip shoes to work, and kakhis and polo shirts on weekends back then. I listened to classic rock, ate at Bennigan's and Ruby Tuesday's, and drove a 3-series BMW. It's just what we did, and thankfully all behind me now. LOL

As I've grown older, dated fashion doesn't suit me, and BMW's (and most cars) and chain restaurants are boring.  To me, classic rock is stale and uninspiring compared to rock and metal from the past 25 years.

I realize I'm a bit of a unique Crystal cruiser - my interests are more common for a Gen Y person, and thus the majority of my friends are much younger than me.

I enjoyed wearing a white dinner jacket with black tie for White Night on my first Crystal cruise last week and will probably dress in black tie when I have the chance to participate in gaming at the new Casino de Montecarlo on board.

I'll be me and continue to wish everyone around me happiness in their own skin. And kakhis, if they choose! 😄

Vince, interesting that they still do training on this.

When we went business casual in the 1990's we realized it was too challenging to put in writing all the options for clothing.  In one of the largest facilities on terms of employees that was part of my team we arranged for a clothing company to come in and they modeled business casual clothing for our teams. It was a win-win. They could show all the examples of business casual and they would probably get sales from this.

Of course back then we were talking about khaki's and button down shirts for gents and pants and tops for ladies, dresses etc.

I remember when I went from the East Coast Corporate environment to California where I had worn three piece suits which seemed foreign to the folks my assistant explained to me every other friday on paydays we had business casual.  It took me awhile to participate.

Today probably almost everything goes.

A question on this from a first-time Crystal ocean cruiser.  Do people wear their white clothing for the entire evening?  Or only change between dinner and the start of the White party?

They do both as the mood strikes them.

Or don't wear white at all. It's optional.

Personally, I can't imagine wearing all white to dinner. I would look like a living Jackson Pollock painting by the time I got to dessert.

So are men wearing white sneakers with dress clothes as seems to becoming the habit that you see - hope not

I think the bigger issue is that there is a real blur these days between what are considered casual shoes (like you’d wear with resort wear) and what most people would call sneakers…. I’m sure there is a certain demographic that would look at some of the casual  resort wear shoes that a lot of people under 40 would wear, and call them sneakers even though they’re not.

Not to say there aren’t also people that would wear white sneakers to dinner too, I’m sure that also has happened, but I think as a trend, there’s more to that story.

There is no "White Party" dress code here. Think of it as a cocktail/dance party get together in The Cove, on Deck 5, the "main lobby" of the ship. Many who participate dress in white, many don't. Many just look over the railing on Deck 6 enjoying the music, and many, like my wife and I, don't even bother to attend, preferring The Avenue Saloon, or the Sunset Bar (on Serenity) or the Starlite Bar (on Symphony). It really is not that big of a deal.
