Hotel Recommendations in Bergen.

Recommended Posts

I’m not having much luck finding a hotel in Bergen. Clean/quiet-ish. Does not have to be especially near port or airport. We are fine figuring out transportation.  Convenient to train station would be a plus. Thanks!

I stayed at Hotel No. 13, a little boutique hotel that I liked.  I walked there to and from the train station.  About a 10 minute walk.  Could have been shorter if I would have ridden the tram 1/2 way.  I also walked from the hotel to the Hurtigruten/Havila terminal, if that’s where you are headed.  All of the central area is walkable too.

There are two hotels across the street from the train station.  The Zander K and the Grand Hotel Terminus.  The Zander K is modern and the Grand Hotel is more of a historic kind of place.  We've stayed at the Zander K a couple of times.  We were able to leave our luggage with them after we checked out and took one night trip to Flam.  Large free breakfast.

last trip, we flew in and were boarding Viking Ocean .. stayed at Radisson Blu which is walking distance to the terminal VO uses and on the west end of the main tourist water front. VO was clearly using their hotel as one of their 'pre and post extension' locations. The last stop for the shuttle from the airport is at the front door!  On an earlier visit, post cruise we used Bergen Harbor Hotel which is near the funicular station and the fish market ....  https://bergenharbourhotel.no/hotellet/ ... much smaller then Rad'image.thumb.png.23fcb22f94b375da25ee3730031c5132.png

We like the hotel across from the Radisson Blu. The Havenkontoret… very Norwegian, lovely service and the price included full breakfast, afternoon tea and waffles and a nice dinner buffet. It’s on the Bryggen and a Very short walk to Viking dock. Walkable to train station but maybe 15-20 minutes. Right by the Hanseatic museum where the lovely walking tours begin.

Most hotels in the city centre are pretty nice, but I would avoid those without a front desk. The reason is that if something goes wrong, or doesn't work, and you're not speaking the local language, it's quite stressful to not have a human to get help from. At least that's my experience. I would go for a hotel that comes with breakfast, because there is not any tradition in Norway for eating breakfast at a place. For that reason I would not recommend the Magic Hotel chain. When the app that unlocks your door doesn't quite work and there's no front desk... It can be a bit much.

Some you might want to consider, in addition to what others have already said, and why:

Citybox Bergen City Citybox is a chain with relatively basic accomodations at relatively low prices, but it's clean, comfortable and does its job. I've used this chain quite a lot for business travel, and if you don't want to spend a lot, but do want a good bed, I can recommend it. It's about 10 minutes from the transit hub/mall.

Scandic Ørnen is a business hotel, with a really central location. It's right across the road from the central bus-station/mall as well as the train station. You can catch every form of public transport from there, and it's a 5 minute walk at most. (Except the cruise ferry to Denmark/Kristiansand. That's over at the cruise docks to the south of the old dock.) Note: Ørnen means "The Eagle". It's very easy to get to places from there. Whether you're going to Ikea (walk to the other end of the park, and take bus #4 from Festplassen), the airport (light rail #1), or somewhere else. OTOH, it's close to traffic, so I'd ask nicely for a floor high up.

Radisson Blu Royal Hotel is a hotel situated next to the old docks. It also has the airport bus leaving right outside it of it, which is nice. If you want to get to the train station, take bus #12 to Lægdene - Montana, which is the simplest option (don't have to change buses).
