Rudeness of Cruisers

So, question: Is it chair hogging if you actually sit in it all day? Except for bathroom breaks and a quick run to the buffet to get lunch (which I took to the chair), I didn't leave it unattended for long stretches of time.

PERSONALLY, I have no issue with that as long as someone is using it.  We usually go so far as ONE of us goes to get something for both of us to eat/drink so one of us is always with our loungers.  Carol likes to read, I like the pool. One of us always there. Saying this...if it's crowded and lots of folks looking for vacant loungers I'll just get their attention and tell them to have ours after we've enjoined ours for a while. We get bored staying in the same place for too long anyway! LOL!

OP's icon identifies her home as Washington State. Are there other states named Washington outside the USA?

There is no sense in trying to explain the point. You win.

The OP has a valid complaint, which ought not be belittled. According to you, the remedy for rudeness is self-help, which in a civilized society should be a last resort.

When the crew on site failed to intervene, the OP should have been able to have the crew call for Security.

Thank you. I was not just posting for myself but for the others, like a cruiser who was wheelchair bound, who was told by a chair blocker "just to stand up". I walk with a cane and standing on a moving ship is not something I can do for a prolonged period of time. Balconies are nice, if they are on the scenic side.

Ok.As the OP, I said my piece and the thread ran away. Just use common courtesy to those behind you. They may not be able to stand and look over you.

PLEASE NO MORE POSTS.

You think that's bad...during scenic cruising into Cape Town on this years' GWV, an entitled lady laid out on one of the Crow's Nest couches.  She had her shoes off and feet up on the couch taking up at least THREE spaces!  The Crow's Nest filled up and she just ignored everyone, continuing to read a book.  She got plenty of mean looks but just ignored everyone.  It was the most "entitled" thing I had ever seen on a cruise.  I hope she reads this.

Even if by some chance she does read your post, the chances are she will not recognize her entitled self.

When we were on the Rotterdam last year.  We went up to the Crow's Nest at 5:30 am before the sail in up Geiranger Fjord.   There was a chair with a really nice scarf tied around it.  I wanted to remove it and place it aside, but didn't. 😂

I have no problem sitting in "saved" chairs.  First come, first served.  I just remove the "placeholder", put it nearby and sit down.  What are they going to do?

DW always claims (hogs) the balcony chair with the most sun, unless she gets too hot, then she lays claim to the one with less sun.  I am just happy to have a chair.

Pretty easy. Head to CS, As for a passenger by country listing. They have it. I know because I just received one for our NA Canal crossing. Personally I agree with the post. I agree USA folks are not as accommodating as say Canadians. I am from USA, so try not to diss me for saying it.

If they say "Sorry" when they've done nothing wrong ... they are Canadians 🙂

Lets not pat ourself on our back too much, I have seen my share of rude Canadians, there are good & bad from all nationalities. The best thing to do is treat each other with respect, treat others as you yourself would like to be treated.

Anyone who thinks they can place a book on a chair and go away and come back to find the book on the chair is a dreamer. First come first served. It's not high school. The only thing that reserves a seat is a body. I am not shy to remove a book or any other 'saver' article from a chair.

I do hope you make sure the person is not really in the pool swimming. But I do understand what you are saying.

I had waited forever for someone to relinquish a lounger.  When I finally got one, I grabbed a towel, put my stuff on the chair and my shoes underneath, and went for a swim.  When I got out… all my stuff was gone!  Talk about adding insult to injury.  😂

No group has a monopoly on idiots or intelligence. In general people are decent but occasionally absent minded.  We watched some people yesterday as they were “rude” to a person behind them. We were delighted , as was the offended person, when they finally caught their lapse and sincerely apologized to the other person.
