Tell Me More About Century!!!

Back from my cruise and it was awesome. Eastern Carribbean June 26-July 3

Weather-perfect...warm and sunny not too much wind but enough to keep you cool.

Embarkation...even though there was 11 of us it was handled flawlessly. I can tell you that that is NOT the case with every cruise line today.

Sailing, Meals and the Ship...all Outstanding our waiter Hernan and his assistant were fantastic. Our Sommelier was the bomb. But most impressive was our Maitre'd Rudy from Croatia. I must say that he was delightfully entertaining and witty. I never have a complaint but I tipped him extra for all the little extras he did. The cruise director Allan King was a great entertainer and speaking of entertainment I was happy with all but our comedienne and she was only on for one show late. The food was classic Celebrity Century which is to say No. 1.

I had but one disappointment and that was Michaels Club is no longer a cigar bar. I was led to believe that they changed it back from Piano to Cigar but I was misled. Cigars are only allowed outdoors on the decks. I am used to this type of activity and wish there was something we cigar lovers could do. The small space of Michaels Club with the furnishings wer what made it so special oh well...

I am also sick of them cramming coke down my throat. Give me a choice. I love Diet Pepsi...I knew they don't offer so I brought a 12 pack but really, they don't sell just one brand of Beer.

All of my family and friends had a great time. Next up for us though is the Princess Carribbean :)

Welcome back Thomasale... I'm with Lois on both parts of her statement.. Glad you had such a nice time and totally agree that she is a special ship? I got off the day you got on, and I miss her already. Was the Captain still Skylopaggonis? (Spelling)

Hi Thomasale !

I am glad to hear you had a great time on Century. I am sailing on her in 11 days. We are doing the Western Caribbean.

We had a wonderful time on Century last year. I hope she will be great once again. Judging from recent reviews, I am confident that our Cruise will be great !

Might you remember what some of the entertainment was ? I heard the Ladder Guy was around recently. Was he on your sailing ? Do you remember the name of any of the other entertainers ?

Any information is appreciated !

Regards,
Andy

Andy yes the ladder guy was on and did two shows be sure to catch him when he is there. He was on Century when I sailed her a couple years ago. The Celebrity Singers and Dancers were quite good I thought. They had an impersonator, a singer named Sorrentino, I also enjoyed him although one of the guys in our party hated him. This was the first cruise that I took in the show every night and I will tell you I did enjoy it...

Waddy, a Taiwanese girl in the Martini bar, was really quite special. She was at the pool bar the first day and we hit it off quite well. I was especially touched when she told me she had two children 9 yrs old and 4 months. Her mother was watching both of them and you could tell that the 4 month old was tugging at her heart. I was even more amazed when she introduced us to her husband. He is manager fo the bars on the ship. She has to work extra diligently to avoid claims of favoritism and I can tell you she works!!!

The captain is the same...oh yeah, one more note, the guy who gives the readings at noon...get rid of the heavy accent :). As a funny aside we were all in the Celebrity theatre when the Captain introduced his ships officer...it was a riot..."On my left lakljasdflkjapotopiqtgkejqgjalkjaoijasfklkaklflkj from Athens greece, lpjaspgjklasd[gjkl[pkldasgfklj[doalgkll
;'adkgj[agjldkhjklajgkljsdflkjasklfja;lksjgaklsgjaoiu;dligjadhfj;dlija'dfjhaijsj"...I swore he was speaking Greek but he wasn't...oh well as we can all attest he does his job Marvelously because we all love his SHIP

Andy, from reading other posts, and from my own experience in June, it seems like the singers and dancers and the ladder guy are there for the season. The rest of the acts are flown in. I remember seeing (in two ports), entertainers boarding with luggage.

Since you're doing the Western itinerary, I hope the river tubing is one of your excursions! That's loads of fun, especially if you do it with a group. We had about 15 cruise critic posters who all did it together and it was a real hoot. Another fun excursion, which I think is fairly new, was the speed boats in Cozumel. If you like to go really fast, drive your own boat, bump over waves, eat Mexican buffet, relax and swim on a beach, then you would enjoy this excursion.:D

I'm very envious of you sailing on the Century. We hope to be able to sail on her again in the future.

Thomasale - Glad you had such a great cruise, the Century is such a beautiful ship - I do go on other ships, but I always come back to the Century. I'm also glad the ladder guy is still there. He's been on both my Century cruises and he's fantastic. We also really liked Alan King.

Andy - 11 days! That's great, I am jealous!! Hope you too have a great cruise on my favorite ship! I've got a little over 2 months to go, but it's actually going faster these days:)

I think it`s a matter of attitude. If you let small things bother you then you aren`t going to have a good time. That`s bad attitude. If you see things as an adventure to be enjoyed then that`s good attitude.

I want to know if these same people who find so many things wrong have ever really been on a perfect cruise. One person in particular based a lot of their rating on the fact that smoking was allowed in many places. Isn't that true for most cruises? I'm not a smoker, but the smoke was never really all that bad to where I couldn't enjoy myself.

I just read some of the reviews for 6/04 and then came in here to see what everyone is saying.

I can't help but think that, with so many wonderful reviews, something went wrong on this particular cruise or there were some people who a bit finicky!!
I will continue to read until our cruise, which is so far away...but I think that we will have a great time. This is our first Celebrity. Two Princess and two NCL.

I met a friend Nita on the Tahitian Princess and she and Gary have only been on two ships twice. They were the TP and Century!! They loved both ships and I certainly trust their judgment. They cruise often.

I`m a former smoker(I`m sorry)And I thought the casinos were absolutely the worst place you could be for health`s sake. Some of the lines have the ship designed where you have to walk through them to get from one end to the other.Otherwise it never bothered us in any of the lounges or the decks where it is allowed. And it did not taint the trip a bit to have to walk through the smoke.Like I said attitude.

I'm about ready to make a Tally run for dog food. I'm kind of open as to when I do it so if you want to meet for lunch, let's try to do it. Can we bring cruise pictures? :D

June 4 (or 5th) Cruise. I didn't know there were any bad reviews of this cruise, the escape one. I was on it and I was pretty well pleased. I mean, nothing is ever 100%, but I definitely will be back on Century and I thought the food, if possible, was better than what I've had on other X ships! It was great! I'm going to go find that review! I may have to breakdown and write my own!

I read the review. It seemed pretty sore. It`s one person`s opinion.Like all the glowing ones.More people like the ship than don`t.That`s why I have to go on it!!!!!

Gee, I just read those reviews. It doesn't sound like the Century we were on. I didn't smell smoke all over the ship, I often had drinks from the pool bar with no odor. The only thing I can think is that the traveler has an over-sensitive nose. Our cabin steward and butler were the tops, the staff all over the ship would bend over backwards to help in every way (and always with a smile). My DH and I had a wonderful experience on the Century and plan to sail her again in the future. I don't think you'll ever find anyone who agrees 100% with everything. I guess some things bother some people more than others. That's what makes life interesting.:D

Hi. I am off of work next Friday (7/16) so I can meet for a quick lunch ( hour or so). I have to find an apt. for my dd to live in next year. Does that work for you? I don't know what you know in town so I don't want to confuse you. What side of town do you know? deb

WOW...I just read the 2 reviews where they didn't like anything. Now, an objective review is one thing.....but 95% of the cruise was not good?

On the same ship I love? That I would sail again tomorrow if I could?

Not that ship....oh ok, maybe it is....but if something in the cabin smells..and the steward can't help..don't you go to the Head of Housekeeping?

Sorry those folks didn't have a good time..sorry they felt like their $ was wasted....
I still LOVE HER:D

I have not had a chance to check out the reviews yet, but do these people have any other reviews posted?

Some people just want to vent and complain. I usually take their reveiws with a (major) grain of salt. A review that concentrates on only one item and beats it into the ground is not a review but an editiorial comment.

On some ships that I have previously sailed there have been some negative reviews that I did not encounter the problem they were complaining about when they were sailing. There have even been reviews slaughtering the sailing that I was on when I was happy as a clam. It depends on the persons perspective and expectations. and some people are not happy with anything or anyone. I definately want to hear the negative as well as the positive because if there is more negative in areas that count for me I may change my mind about sailing that particular ship/cruiseline. That is what happened when I went on my first cruise. I was going to go on another cruiseline until a read reviews of th ship/line I was interested in. The overwhelming amount of them said it was not for me, maybe for other people, but I am not that much of a partier. so I read about Celebrity and found a great price for the Zenith and went on her. The TA I was working (cough cough) with was not much of a help. The only thing he said was that I will never want to go on the other line after Celebrity. Well, I havn't yet, but will in the future. Tuggers: If you mean the one around Home Depot, there is TGI Fridays, Scales and Tails (sea food), Up 319 a little is Manna's (American california, new age etc cuisine with seafood), Boston Market, Steak andShake, Old town Cafe onmarket St., Bruggers Bagels, A french place not far that I would have to give you directions, Chinese , Japanese, Thai. What type of food do you like deb

I just submitted my review and it was quite a bit more on the positive side. For the record I did note a funky odor in the stateroom bathroom and at the pool bar I also noted an odor that reminded me a little of vomit. I am an ex-cigarette smoker but not one of those that is offended by it. I would in no way think that these would ruin the cruise and if they did then it says alot about the individual. I am more apt to make lemonade :) Missing all the nice touches that make Century SPECIAL
