envy4u Posted September 18, 2006 #79 Share Posted September 18, 2006 YES to the older crowd...I believe the average age is 63 on this cruise! I don't think your analogy applies but I could be wrong! I just believe that my own personal experience is taht on these longer cruises people find that for example a couple travelling on this cruise together would fork over $540.00 in gratuities which some find exorbitant and can't seem to understand that people work on here for a living and send all or most of there money back home to there families. No polite way of saying...just cheap buggers on here thats all and they feel taht they have paid well over $7500.00 for two people and thats enough why should they have to tip since they have shelled out so much money on this cruise!TonyTony I may get bashed for this one but I think Princess should just raise their prices so the staff do not have to rely on the tips so much . I for one do not have a problem with this . I feel if one can afford 7500.00 for a cruise they can afford to have the additonal tip included as well . P.S. Stay away from those cookies . They are artery clogging and we want you around or do you want me to help Javier spend all your money ? lol

T&J Posted September 18, 2006 Author #83 Share Posted September 18, 2006 Good Mroning from the Pacific Princess...Last night teh satelite connection was up and down like a yo yo...so couldn't even get on to post last night. The seas were and are now pretty choppy and rough for some reason, but it's still pitch black outside so I can't see a thing! Got out from dinner last night at 10:15pm and we were the last table to leave which makes me feel bad. On these longer cruises, people then to take there time to eat and linger and as there were a lot of other tables that stayed late as well. Oh well we had a great meal and a great time as well. This morning woke up at 5:45am as we had set the clocks forward one hour last night. I am going to go for a quick breakfast this morning and then most likely to the gym to get that out of the way early today. We have a Cruise Critic get together that the ship has put on at 3:00pm in the Pacific Lounge and funny enough there is a Friends of Dorothy get together at 3:15pm in the Casino Bar. I put out some more luandry this morning so let's see what time it comes back today since we are at sea tehy tend to be very busy on here for laundry. The ship is currently rocking back and forth front and back and side to side! Apparently the seas get worse as we sail to India. I didn't go to the "office" last night as I was too tired and also had been drinking far too much yesterday all afternoon and all evening! More to follow later this morning from the Pacific Princess. Sandy R Posted September 19, 2006 #85 Share Posted September 19, 2006 Hi Tony... happy to hear you're having a good time. I'm posting from the Sapphire Princess. We embarked in Whittier, Alaska and will be going the 28 days to Osaka, Japan. As I write this we are traversing the Bering Sea, with my DH estimating the swells are reaching about 30 feet at times. Our ship is also rocking and rolling. We will be spending 3 more days in the Bering Straits until we reach Russia. Was told the internet would be down for most of the next few days but lo and behold, it's up and running. I'll keep checking your "live" thread when I can. Oh, we won triva today!! Smooth sailing for everyone, Sandy

I have never done that cruise before and one wouldn't mind doing it...so give me your views about that sailing as I would appreciate it.Our swells currently are about 10 feet high and no more. The sky is getting to be very dark if you can see it currently on the cruise cam of the ship.We just had an update from trhe Officer of the Watch from the bridge telling us that we anticipate a high of 81F and a strong possibility of rain later on today.Tonight the menu is greek which is one of my favorites and I have asked them to prepare some deep fried calamari for the table as well. I just got back from breakfast and had some fresh squeezed orange juice and eggs benedict which was yummy...fatning but yummy!I plan on hitting the gym earlier this morning unless it's very busy in there.More to come later today from the Pacific Princess somewhere at sea heading towards Singapore.Tony

TorontoTL Posted September 19, 2006 #88 Share Posted September 19, 2006 I have to say that your Live from threads are always the most informative and entertaining. I hope you keep up the pace with your cruises so we can always have interesting stuff to read when on this site. Now what is poor Javier doing at home by himself while you're enjoying yourself Tony? I can't imagine going on a cruise without Fabian my partner. He must be a good guy not to get jealous, I certainly would be. No way Fabian gets to cruise ever without me! Keep having a great time and keep us up to date on your antics! By the way, Arlene and Tony, I also agree with you about the tips. The Princess employees all really deserve the tips and they should always receive them.

T&J Posted September 19, 2006 Author #96 Share Posted September 19, 2006 we'll just came back from a fabulous lunch this afternoon. I ahd the pumkin and chared chowder and a pasta a la minute which was tossed in fresh tomato sauce and garlic with basil. For dessert I hade the torte anglaise and nougat ice cream (oh I shouldn't have). The weather is getting progressively worse today as the day passes by. We have had lightning bolts and thunder and heavy rains at times and teh swells are increasing as well as teh ship is being moved around quite a bit. This afternoon is our Cruise Critic get together in the Pacific Lounge at 3:00pm. Tonights entertainment is as follows: Spotlight Showtime in the Cabaret Lounge at 8:15pm and 10:15pm Seahawk trio from 9:00-11:00pm in the Pacific Lounge Scary-o-kee in the Casino Lounge/Bar 7:30pm and Sammy goldstein from 10:15pm onwards. T&J Posted September 19, 2006 Author #98 Share Posted September 19, 2006 Hi Tony,Any plans for Singapore? On last years cruise, KL was cancelled and as a bonus we had an overnight there . David, I plan on going to Sentosa Island and probably hang out at the Shangri-La Hotel. the property is amazing with a great tropical garden pool that snakes aroudn for miles wheather permitting. If it's raining tomorrow then I will go and take the MRT into Old Orchard Road and have lunch and do some shopping instead. I hope KL is not cancelled this year as so many ports have been cancelled already.Tony
