Cabins to avoid

Broughton Hall

Recommended Posts

We've stayed in the Ryndam's Deluxe Verandahs and if you want to avoid the morning noises of the chairs and tables being moved about on the Lido Deck above, then consider those cabins which are either forward or aft of the Lido mid-pool area. Yes, it may be a short hike to the Neptune Lounge, but at least you won't be awakened by scraping noises from above.

Others may have different opinions/experiences, but that is what this board is all about.

BTW, have a great cruise! :)

we have flown out of both; depends on price/convenience, etc.

please, no more snow! Spring, hurry up to our area.:)

2 bad cabins i remember...i'm not as good at remembering cabin numbers as some folks..one on HAL....we were above the anchor..when they tendered you would hear the anchor drop, all 18 miles of it.or so it sounded like..the other was on ROYAL...we like to stay low and mid ship. and we were right above the deck leading off the ship so starting at 7:30 am you would hear "ping. ping, ping"..people putting their id cards through....but we were still sailing and on vacation..can't complain

Hi

We have booked an inside cabin for two adults and two children, 6 and 7.

Apparently this cabin is a quad cabin. Does anyone know how they accommodate the children in this room?

Mal NZ

My brother and his family shared an inside cabin on the Veendam. It had been configured with the queensize bed in the corner, the bunk pulled down out of the ceiling in the other corner for one child and the sofa bed opened opposite the dresser area for the other child. The kids were 15 and 16 at the time.

This is a fantastic topic...can't imagine we never saw it before!!

We're very quickly trying to decide....the Zuiderdam for Christmas/New Year's, 2009.

We have never stayed in an AFT suite...but have had so many people tell us how great they are....any comments would help us make our decision soon before they're gone. At our age, comfort is uppermost. We also enjoy the Neptune Lounge and have been quite close to it several times, which truly was convenient.

SB8140 or SB 8147...SB7242 or SB7151...SC5191 and 6166 or 6177 OR one that you think might be even better!! Are any of these more shaded than others? Should we worry about soot? Privacy?

Thanx in advance...I'm really getting ready to pack! ;)

Debbie,

We were in 6037 in december 2008 on the Westerdam. It was a VB. Balcony was wet, we were not too thrilled, HAL made up for it in the end.

Drainage, probably. Probably fixed by now. Room was nice. Service exemplary.

This is one to avoid. Out of six cruises, this cabin is close to the ships' engines and the floor is in constant vibration, in addition to the weird humming squealing sound (that could wake the dead) that would occur

anywhere from 1/2 hour to one hour prior to reaching port. Same sound

starts up when leaving port, too. The cabins on either side would be bad too. Just a word to the wise.

It looks like a good cabin because on the deck plan there is nothing that appears to be a problem, plus the cabin is mid ship, usually a desirable spot to be when the seas get rough.icon6.gif

Hi,

Does anyone know what's on the mid section of the main deck of a Vista class ship (say the Zuiderdam) just aft of the atrium? We're considering the D category quad rooms (for example D1093) but not sure what we are neighbours to across the hall..

Any info appreciated! Thanks.

The ones on the outside are staff offices (Hotel Manager, Beverage Manager, Purser, Controller, etc.). On the inside are 'crew only' areas.

any opinions on cabins on the Rotterdam (oceanview)?

we don't have a cabin number yet so interested in any deck and your experiences.

we are hoping for a D or DA category but nothing guaranteed for sure.

The outside cabins on Lower Promenade are smaller than those on Main Deck. Additionally, those on Lower Promenade don't have the direct view of the sea.

The compensation is that you are steps away from the largest veranda on the ship! It's easy to get to/from lifeboat drill quickly.

On the deck plans, it looks as if there maybe an entrance to an outside deck at the rear of this deck.

Is this correct?

Yes and no. There are doors leading out there, but they're emergency exits only, and the deck is crew-only work space otherwise.

Just returned from a lovely family reunion on the Ryndam to Sea of Cortez. Two of our 4 cabins were hot; minimal air conditioning and even sleeping was difficult. The front office did check the temperature on two different days - 75 and 78, but sadly nothing improved. We did finally ask for and received fans for the rooms which help immensely. Perhaps ok for Alaska but definitely avoid these cabins in Mexico!
