I'll join the minority here Donna!

I booked 2 balconies on deck 6 just for the location alone.

I don't like the see-through plexiglass fronts, but I LOVE the bit of extra privacy with the metal front underneath the balcony railings. :p Whatever floats our boat...right? :D

Well said!:) We didn't expect either balcony in the JS or the OS to be like that in those 2 cabins and it worked very well for us and it wouldn't stop me from booking either cabin but everyone is different. Hurricanes, noise, cancelled ports, balconys, etc. just doesn't bother us as we are ON THE SHIP AND HAVING FUN! LOL! :D

I am really enjoying all of your pictures and your tales of your trip. I was concerned when you were in rough seas and am glad you are safe. Can you tell me???? I will be sailing in a GS on the Dec 23 holiday cruise and am curious if you know if the same type or size of table will be on my balcony?

Yes, you will have a table like that in the GS

Exactly... I like the idea of the half and half concept on the deck 6 balconies as well. Have you ever had one before or is this the first time for you staying on deck 6?

Donna, Last time aboard Explorer I wasn't on deck 6 but I saw the balconies and really loved them.

We had similar enclosed ones aboard older ships (Regency Line) and when we were docked in port, especially next to another ship, I felt that it was a very nice asset. :)

To me it tastes like ice milk which I like much better than ice cream but it definitely does not taste like yogurt! :D

I agree with it tasting more like ice milk than yogurt. It is not as creamy as ice cream, but definitely not yogurt-like either.

In fact, I could reeeeally go for some right now.......... :D

I was thinking about you and DIL! :D

Our dil just started radiation yesterday and had a great dr visit. Hoping there is light at the end of the tunnel at last as she is counting down until the 23 of dec when she gets on the vision of the seas for her christmas trip with her family courtesy of her grandmother from last year. She is hoping the cookies are on there!! My hubby and I are just truly amazed at the strength and the courage this young lady has and when we think we are having a bad day we just say..cindy and it seems the clouds go away. She is an inspiration to us for sure. I will have to paste the picture and send to her. thank you thank you

Suzanne.. once again you come through with the info, not to mention, the pics and explanation to back it all up. I know I'll be in the minority here, but I actually like the setup of the balcony. I have had two promenade rooms on the Voyager and two balcony rooms on the Carnival Victory. I am prone to seasickness and I pretty much avoid the balcony, because if I am on smooth seas and enjoy the amenities of the ship, I seem to do fine. What I like about this balcony is that little nook in the corner where the lounge chair is. My mom and my daughter can feel free to sit at that table and I can be a bit "sheltered" until I get my sea legs on. When I want to be brave, I can shift on over to the open part of the balcony.

I also think the lounge chair in the room seems like a nice spot right there by the picture window. If I'm not mistaken, from your picture, that indoor chaise must be up against the tall window of the balcony, so in essence, you have windows on both sides of you while relaxing in chaise lounge. I think this balcony is just what the doctor ordered for me.

Thanks again for sharing!

Hey Donna....I had a problem on my dec cruise last year and had to go to the infirmary from one tonsil swelling which happened from environment..smoke in casino and high humidity in san juan at that time. The ship doc gave me meds and also told me that with all the rocking and rolling we did to get from miami to san juan as we were in terrible storm, I shouldn't have stopped taking my bonine after we got to port. I needed to take each day and also to get fresh air continually not just for throat but it helps with sea sickness. Sure enough the feb cruise I made sure even tho a little rough the first night, I did get my fresh air from our balcony and took the bonine and was great.

She thinks her mother in law is nuts....I tell her it is all her fault that I like to cruise now...she forced me!!! LOL Her family is great and this will be a great trip and the kids sure need this. They are going to meet up with us in Vegas for a long weekend in Jan with 10 other friends to celebrate birthdays and Cindy's health! So she's like..wow I went in May when I lost all of my hair and was getting ready for chemo #2 and now I am going to be back there with some hair and having a reason to celebrate. these two have been so focused on making sure the bills are paid and she has what she needs to make her comfortable there has been little time for anything else other than doc visits or treatments. Sometimes you just don't realize how consuming that all becomes unless it is you. So luckily we are able to spoil them with a little envelope with some cruise funds and some vegas funds for christmas.

Thank you for keeping me going with all the great conversation about such a great ship that has created such great memories and many more to come!!! And that includes ....see I am watching the cma awards...so I have to thank everyone....you Christie..for starting this great thread...to Suzanne...my cookie keeper and in house photographer...and Lynn for keeping me sane about not booking during hurricane season at the same time Suzanne is on....!! LOL the list goes on as we have met so many wonderful new friends!

Cris,

Thanks for the info on seasickness. It may help more than just me. My mom spends a lot of time in the casino, almost all of her "free" time on a cruise, and I never considered that there is smoking in there. She is living with stage 4 lung cancer and between the casino time and we are also going to San Juan, although I don't know if that is always a rough port to get into, I think I will encourage her to spend daily time on the balcony as well. She doesn't seem to suffer from seasickness, but I can imagine those factors could negatively impact her breathing as well.

I sincerely hope your dil does well and enjoys her Christmas cruise with her family. It sounds like she is quite a trooper and more than deserving of this time away with her loved ones. Our cruise is very special to us as well, as we are booked on a very similar cruise with a group of people in July and my mom may not be able to go with us due to her illness. Hence, she planned this cruise as our gift and we will surely treasure it.

Believe me they won't even know!!! It does NOT taste yogurty at all. My DD8 LOVED it, I could barely keep her away, lol. :D

It's not the taste...it the "mental" part of eating yogurt versus ice cream.

What can I say...my kids are stange. :D

No they're not! I won't touch yogurt either:D But I love the frozen " ice cream " on the ship! When your kids see all the other kids lining up for ice cream cones they will just follow:D

Hey Donna:

Make sure you bring some ginger. Not sure how your mom will be with the bonine depending on her meds in her case. Hopefully we can all make this a special cruise for you and your family too. My mom only has a third of one lung that functions as there are all tumors in the other....3 pack a day'r for years..so at 83 I am glad she is still with us but it is hard. She is on oxygen and she does her own thing in our house. It is kind of "mom proof" so she won't blow up! But with all of that and copd and the emphezema too and a host of other stuff...heart, brain..you name it...geez it really sucks to get these problems. I have to often remind mom when she is having a bad day which seems is every day..just look at what cindy is going through, so get out of bed and get moving! No, that doesn't motivate her..but it sounds good. Gives her something to think about for sure.

Usually the smoke gets bad in the casino if it is really busy and always at the tables. It bothers my eyes too so i have to keep drops for me and the dh. Sometimes you will feel the movement in the casino if we are on a roll getting to the next port. We seemed to only feel it coming to and from miami. So this should be interesting out of bayonne. I bought a lot of bonine at walmart this week!

Hi, Thanks for all the info. You really had a great view! Nice window!! I'll be sailing in Feb and took a chance with the guaranteed inside stateroom... hoping for an upgrade! Have you ever heard of people actually getting upgrades? Also, I was wondering if I should bring my ice skates on board? By the way, those cookies look delicious! Are there restaurants or cafes on board, other than the Portofino, where you have to pay extra? thanks
