*Mach* Posted December 4, 2007 Author #126 Share Posted December 4, 2007 Hi Everyone ! I had planned to welcome Host Mach to our board personally, but due to my Dad having emergency surgery, I havent been around much over the past few days. Thankfully, the surgery went well, and we hope all will be fine ! I am thrilled to have Host Mach join us. I feel he will be a great asset to both Cruise Critic, and the Cunard Board. As I am moderating several boards right now, it will be great to have Host Mach be an important part of the Cunard Board. Again, all the best Greg, and I look forward to working with you ! Thanks, Andy. It's already been quite the experience and for the most part very good. I have to admit that I was a bit concerned about co-hosting this board with you but I've been pleasantly surprised. My major concern was my lack of knowledge of Cunard but that has actually become a bit of an asset. I've learned quite a bit in a very short period of time and I'm looking forward to learning more. These folks are very willing to provide information and are really quite supportive. I'll try to live up to your expectations.
Kindlychap Posted December 4, 2007 #127 Share Posted December 4, 2007 Mach... the speed of sound, so named for Ernst Mach who was the first to quantify it. I love going fast... :D Just the single Mach? American commerical aircraft never made mach 2, did they? ;) Matthew:)
*Mach* Posted December 4, 2007 Author #128 Share Posted December 4, 2007 Just the single Mach? American commerical aircraft never made mach 2, did they? ;) Matthew:) No, they didn't. Although Boeing did have their version of the SST in the works the fear was a lack of economic feasibility. Sad. However, waaaaay back in the early '60s a gentleman named Kelly Johnson tacked together a little jet called the YF-12A... It grew up to be the SR-71. Mach 3+... Remarkably good for the time... in fact, remarkably good for ANY time. By the way, I've never flown anything with a kitchen... not my style... ;)

Andy - it's nice to see you for a change. I'm afraid that it's more than a few days you haven't been around much (at least on the Cunard forum) it must be several months since we last got to see your presence. I'm very pleased the surgery went well but it doesn't seem to have stopped you posting on other boards: 9 posts today, 10 yesterday, 1 the day before and four the day before that! When I got to 20 posts at the end of November I gave up counting. Are you going to be more active now that we've got two hosts?

cruisegal101 Posted December 4, 2007 #132 Share Posted December 4, 2007 Dear Dak, I've followed your recommendations before, and nearly get electrocuted. I do not intend to repeat the mistake. Oh, and welcome new host person by the way; don't worry, they're all barking. And the barkingest (is this a word BTW?) one is currently on 'gardening leave' with 'avian flu'. God help you when he gets back. As a cat lover, perhaps you could save yourself a lot of trouble and ban the lot of them now. Sir Martin, a wellwisher My Dear Sir Martin: How nice of you to welcome the new host. I had begun to wonder if Malcolm had at last seen to your demise. It has been rather dull around here with your absence. Glad to know that you are alive and well. But, how dare you suggest that your serf and her friends (including the lady who feeds me)be banned! We felines must stick together to insure that our new and so far so good host will keep the humans in proper form--absolutely no fun in banning the lot just yet. Do you know if Greg has met my beloved betrothed Hunkaluvincruisincat whose proper name is Lord Stanley? Greg, to bring you up to speed, I am also a cat although Sir M says that I resemble a large animal of unknown origin from somewhere in the plains of Africa. He has suggested that I might be a hippopotamus disguised as a cat. I can assure you that this is not true! I am a lovely large feline and am quite proud of my stature and am adored by Hunkaluvincruisin cat. Welcome to this slightly off balance group of humans, HRHugeness as dictated to TLWFM And, yes it is finally after 5:00 p.m. here, so cocktails are on order. dougnewmanatsea Posted December 4, 2007 #135 Share Posted December 4, 2007 I had a busy day so I didn't check the boards until now. Little did I know what I was missing out on! Greg, welcome aboard. I was the Host of this board up until a few months ago. As your predecessor (sort of) I am pleased to welcome you to the Cunard board. It is quite different from most of the other boards but I hope that you come to like it. It is a very tight knit community and, well, that word different just keeps coming to mind again and again! We are definitely different and we are very proud of that. As you have not been on Cunard I am afraid it may be a bit difficult to relate as many of us here are very passionate about Cunard. However, I am glad that you are interested to share in our passion and learn about it. If you want to establish yourself as "one of us", I suggest you book yourself a voyage aboard the great RMS QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 before it is too late. She does have her detractors (KenC, where are you?) but nevertheless, most of the regulars here do adore her. She is very special and you only have the next year to sail in her. After November 2008 it will truly be the end of an era, there will be no ship like QE2 ever again. It is quite possible that you will hate her as she is so very different from anything else in the world but if you want a true taste of Cunard you must try her. She has been the heart and soul of Cunard for decades now; from 1969 to 2003 Cunard simply was QE2. Now QM2 is the flagship but most of us here are really QE2 people at heart so if you want to see what makes us tick, well, you must try QE2. Anyhow, enough rambling for the moment. Once again, on behalf of the entire membership of the Cunard board, it is my great pleasure to welcome you aboard and I hope you enjoy the voyage. Andy, it is good to hear from you and I wish your father a speedy recovery. I know how all-consuming it can be when one you love suddenly falls ill and I thank you for taking the time to pop in during this difficult time. Matthew, have I missed something? Why limoncello? I am sorry to say I really am not fond of the stuff. Anyhow, isn't limoncello more a Costa thing? (The last time I had it was on Costa. I don't remember why I drank it. Well, aside from that it was free, and it was offered, but seeing as I don't like it it was rather silly of me to accept!)

There will be genuine tears as many of us walk down the gangplank for the last time. I can, even at this distance, get emotional thinking about it. Just look at her - she is, as Doug says, unique. Still the fastest passenger ship around. She is still capable of doing 30 knots without even breaking into a sweat, and doing it day after day. We had several days of 28-30 knots in October - not bad for a 40 year old! Matthew, have I missed something? Why limoncello? I am sorry to say I really am not fond of the stuff. Limoncello to me brings back memories of evenings in Capri, overlooking the Bay of Naples. I learned to love it when my wife and I had our honeymoon at the Capri Palace. I will try to post, but I would say to expect me to be more active after the first of the year, when (I hope things will be calmer) For those who expressed their well wishes about Dad, I thank you. We could use it right now, but the prognosis is good ! While I may not post here, I am around most every day. Not to worry :)
