Smoke-free casino

Recommended Posts

Just returned from the Jewel and they had two smoke-free casino nights. I heard from a cruise employee that it was very successful. Sounds like this was a test to see if they could go completely smoke free. Smokers could step

into the Pit Stop located right by the casino for a smoke.

Actually they have been doing this for some time. The nights I have experienced the smoke free casino were on formal nights.

It is not a matter of if but when cruises will be smoke free. Just look at what city and state laws are now doing. Someone should not stink from cigarette smoke just because they want to visit a public area. Think of

the employees that have no choice but to breath that smoke everyday.

They have there clothes and then there small cabins stink because of

a misguided notion that it is someones right to smoke in a public area.

I can't imagine it taking more than five years until the cruise lines are smoke free in public areas.

Well spoken; from your lips to God's ears. :)

Is it possible to stick to the topic which was, I believe, someone reporting a ship had a couple of nights smoke free. I think we've "hashed" the pros and cons of it already....haven't we. What I would find interesting now is the scope of the smoke free nights on different ships, not rehashing the same pros and cons.

The OP said ...I heard from a cruise employee that it was very successful. Sounds like this was a test to see if they could go completely smoke free....

My response was addressing why it is my opinion that yes indeed "they could go completely smoke free" and why. In my opinion that is on topic.

As for god now being involved I don't know for a fact but it might he/she has lots of time now that she/he does not have to decide who should win the Super Bowl anymore.

Mark, I think I understand why you said what you said and your opinion is important. However, I'm afraid we will loose the intent of this topic by rehashing the opinions that have been expressed. Your opinions have been expressed by many already, on several other threads, which was my point. What I (and just my opinion) would like to read, is on what ships are people having the same or similar experiences to try to get an understanding of how pervasive this "trial' is. To rehash the same pros and cons on this thread will not give me an understanding if RCI is expanding this or not....which I believe would be important to those having similar opinions as yourself.

Cool. Take care and happy cruising.

I think they may be trying smoke free nights on formal nights, fleet wide. Certainly the casino on Brilliance over the Christmas cruise was smoke free on those nights. The casino was also dead on those three nights. :D I think it will depend on what the mix is on board, as to how successful each ship will be. If there's a strong North American mix, I suspect the smoke free nights will be quite popular. If there's a large latin American, or European contingent onboard, I think it will not be as successful.

Just my opinion.:)

Does anyone know if the Mariner has smoke free nights?

Just on Mariner Jan. 20th and they DID NOT have a smoke free night. We went to the casino every day and unless I missed something people were smoking in there everyday.

The Mariner does have a section designated smoke free...

Geez. IT IS NOT A TEST. My last three cruises had smoke free nights in the casino. It is a way of accommodating non smokers who like to use the casino but won't because of the smoke. There is no test. Casino, smoking and alcohol go together. End of story.

It is the same with the smoke free cabins. It is not another step to make ships smoke free or because non smokers are better people. They made cabins smoke free to cut down in cleaning cost and and to prevent damages due to careless smokers (such as burns in bedding, carpet etc).

I went to the casino EVERY night on our Serenade cruise a week ago. I don't care whether or not it is smoking or nonsmoking. But I did take note and observed that it was not as "hopping" on the smoke free nights.

It will be just as "hopping" every night once it is completely smoke free.

Sorry cruisinMike.

That was my observation as well. And maybe it will pick up if it's smoke free every night. I still think they're going to have problems doing that with the Latin American and European market they seem to be catering to right now.

In theory, by my March cruise, I'll be smoke free anyway, so I won't care all that much. :D

We were getting off the Jewel as you were boarding. We had one smoke-free night in the casino, and it was the second formal night, Thursday night.

The place was reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaalllll quiet.
