Willsot Posted April 21, 2008 #26 Share Posted April 21, 2008 Sounds like a trend here. For breakfast, we love the made-to-order omelet station in the Lido. I order all the veggies, with jalapenos. For lunch, our favorite choice is the Asian station. I order the chilled soup of the day every dinner. Last month on the Westerdam my favorite dining room entree was the lamb chops. The fish dishes were also very good. I always get the Nasi Goreng (fried rice in Indonesian, which, according to our dining steward is often eaten for breakfast in Indonesia). I had the brie in phyllo for the first time and agree it was wonderful. And I will second the suggestion for Cappuccino Bombe, my wife's favorite HAL dessert. fireman845 Posted April 21, 2008 #27 Share Posted April 21, 2008 That's also the FIRST food I eat when I arrive. Bee-line to the lido and ask for a great big bowl of deliciousness :) Caroline in TO Ditto -- Bread Pudding is the Fantastic!!!
KimikoPi Posted May 26, 2008 #28 Share Posted May 26, 2008 Waffles with peach melba sauce and whipped cream. Lamb shank was amazing on my last HAL cruise. Tiramisu - a classic but they do it so well. Scottish eggs benedict. The free sample of the chocolate volcano cake at the culinary demonstration.
CruisinTexans Posted May 26, 2008 #29 Share Posted May 26, 2008 They do snails better than any I have eaten anywhere, including France. The lamb chops are great too.
sportsmum Posted May 26, 2008 #30 Share Posted May 26, 2008 What an amazing thread! My girlfriend said she would NEVER go on a cruise that wasn't somewhere hot. She asked me why I would go. Told her..........I can eat and eat and eat and not have to worry about stuffing myself into a bathing suit or shorts. Just stick another sweater on and no one knows a thing! Thank you to all who have posted pictures. Foodie heaven.

Taxguy77 Posted May 26, 2008 #32 Share Posted May 26, 2008 They do snails better than any I have eaten anywhere, including France. The lamb chops are great too. Now I'm really looking forward to my 1st HAL cruise! Last year on AZ, I never even saw escargot and the lobster dinner was a small tail and some salad supposed to have lobster in it. Lamb chops are unavailable in S. TX but I've had some good lamb on cruises. My Grandson made some baked Brie in phylo for Grandma and I one PM. Boy, is it good! :) Don't get between me and Brie!
Krazy Kruizers Posted May 26, 2008 #33 Share Posted May 26, 2008 On our 19 day cruise, Nasi Goreng was on the menu. DH loves it -- sadly it was not on our 7 day Alaskan cruise.
Krazy Kruizers Posted May 26, 2008 #34 Share Posted May 26, 2008 And of course I love the Chocolate Volcano Cake in the Pinnacle.
vbmom87 Posted May 26, 2008 #35 Share Posted May 26, 2008 And of course I love the Chocolate Volcano Cake in the Pinnacle. Is this cake available through room service, or only if you eat at the Pinnacle? Is it available for both lunch at dinner at the Pinnacle?
RuthC Posted May 26, 2008 #36 Share Posted May 26, 2008 Is this cake available through room service, or only if you eat at the Pinnacle? Is it available for both lunch at dinner at the Pinnacle? Only in the Pinncale, and then only at dinner. It's worth the price of admission. :D
cccole Posted May 26, 2008 #37 Share Posted May 26, 2008 My favorite was also the Nasi Goreng. We also loved the surf N turf on one of the formal nights. The club sandwich on the room service menu is fantastic, and the omelets on the room service menu for breakfast are great. My daughter couldn't wait to see what fruit soup was on the menu at dinner....they were always good. Cherie
alonzo14 Posted May 26, 2008 #38 Share Posted May 26, 2008 I also liked the club sandwich. The bread pudding is also very good. And the ice crean is great. It's like going to an ice cream parlor!!! The spring rolls are good too.

vbmom87 Posted May 26, 2008 #40 Share Posted May 26, 2008 We've just booked our 2nd HAL cruise (the last one was 31 years ago, our honeymoon). What are your favorite foods on the menu? Desserts that can't be missed? Or any other favorite things to be sure not to miss? Thanks! This is a great thread. Thanks so much for starting it!! vbmom87 Posted May 26, 2008 #41 Share Posted May 26, 2008 I look more forward to this blueberry soup than almost anything else on the cruise I have coming up. Pinnacle is great, but this soup is extremely good. Only a little over a month to go... let the puddle of drool begin! :) Is the blueberry soup another Pinnacle Grill only specialty? RuthC Posted May 26, 2008 #42 Share Posted May 26, 2008 Is the blueberry soup another Pinnacle Grill only specialty? Happily, no. :) It's coming soon to a dining room near you! There's a chilled soup on the dining room menu most every night. And they are delicious! :) A long time ago the chef on my sailing told me what was in those soups. No wonder I love 'em! :D

terkatz56 Posted May 27, 2008 #45 Share Posted May 27, 2008 The chilled soups for sure were my favorite. Being from a land where all I ever had experienced was hot soups, I dared to be different and try the chilled soups....I was hooked! Bought the book (Rudi's cookbook) and have made some at home already.
Rare LAFFNVEGAS Posted May 27, 2008 #46 Share Posted May 27, 2008 I am another vote for the Baked Brie, I love it. twinkletoes4445 Posted May 27, 2008 #47 Share Posted May 27, 2008 I'd forgotten about the Baked Brie. It was very good. I didn't try any of the chilled soups, but I think I am going to do that next cruise.
usha Posted May 27, 2008 #48 Share Posted May 27, 2008 HAL has a braided pecan pastry in the lido at breakfast that is to DIE for. I could see myself eating enough of them to go into a diabetic coma...:o
grandmaR Posted May 27, 2008 #49 Share Posted May 27, 2008 These are from another thread about HAL food from last fall Maybe they didn't think it was edible. I ate mine. This is the underside of one of them. Things I liked on the last HAL cruise (which was a long one) We had most of our meals in the main dining room rather than the buffet. They often had breakfast specials such as: Grilled Brockwurst, hominy grits and two eggs Chocolate Chip French Toast Cranberry Pancakes I worked my way through the breakfast menu - one morning I had the Belguim waffles Lunch: Thai Curried Chicken Salad Quiche Lorraine Belgian endive and baby spinach salad Pasta Pasta Appetizers and soups Mussels with ginger, garlic and lemon grass (only if you like mussels of course) Cold blueberry soup Cheddar and crab chowder Chilled pear soup Oysters Rockefeller Squash apple soup Bahama banana soup Antilles Shrimp Cocktail, which was tiny shrimp on a cantaloupe slice Brie in phylo dough with apple cranberry compote Citrus Delight with Amaretto (orange, pineapple and grapefruit with cranberry apple viniagrette Carpaccio of beef tenderloin Lobster Medallion Parisenne Chilled cranberry soup with yogurt in it Had this one twice Entrees Salmon with lemon glaze and rosemary crumbs Hazelnut crusted black sea mullet Desserts Bread pudding Creme Brule in the Pinnacle Grill Caribbean Pineapple Sundae (with coconut ice cream) Cappuccino Bombe. This was coffee ice cream coated in bittersweet chocolate and was very good - kind of like a coffee Good Humor Praline ice cream Baked Alaska I have all the rest of the food photos posted on Cruise Mates, but they won't let me post a link here.
