GophersMN Posted November 28, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Dumb question time....what is considered "the hump"? I've read a number of posts referring to this but haven't seen anything that says what it is. Is it a specific part of the ship(mid) or something where rooms are considered to be in higher demand? If so why? Just curious.... Thanks
jmezmom Posted November 28, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 28, 2008 (edited) They are mid ship cabins, right off the elevator but very quiet. The advantage is that the balconies bow out into a semi circle so you can look forward and back and have a view both ways. People off the hump only see in one direction...because you sticking out so far block the other way! Cabiins are close to WJ, dining, pool, etc. Edited November 28, 2008 by jmezmom
suzyluvs2cruise Posted November 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Here's a picture of the hump balconies on the Radiance. We love the location!
cb at sea Posted November 28, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Not all ships have a "hump"--you need to look at the deck plans to see it! On Radiance Class ships, the hump balconies vary in size. On Voyager and Freedom class, they don't. The hump balconies are the same size as any other side balcony. Mainly, it's the convenient location that is the draw. None of the cabins are larger than any other in it's catagory.
GophersMN Posted November 28, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Thanks for the clarification. I've been on NCL a couple times and now know why I hadn't heard of the hump. Must be unique to RCI. Anyway they look nice.....gotta hope for an upgrade!!!!!!!!!!

ILoveScotland Posted November 29, 2008 #7 Share Posted November 29, 2008 Think of it this way: The hump is the bump.
Merion_Mom Posted November 29, 2008 #8 Share Posted November 29, 2008 (edited) Great photo, Suzy! Here are sample deck plans: Navigator: Freedom: Brilliance: Oasis will have two: Edited November 29, 2008 by Merion_Mom
Retired LEO Posted November 29, 2008 #9 Share Posted November 29, 2008 RCI refers to these cabins as "The Bubble"
wwwmarge Posted November 29, 2008 #10 Share Posted November 29, 2008 I think the photo of the "Bubble" LOL...want a awful name....really gives us a better view. I was concerned about 7328 on Mariner but guess I can live with a almost hump.
suzyluvs2cruise Posted November 29, 2008 #11 Share Posted November 29, 2008 (edited) Thanks Carol. Here's a picture of the "hump" cabins on the Voyager. As Carol's deck plans show the "hump" is more of a "bump". Edited November 29, 2008 by suzyluvs2cruise

First you say people on these balconies can look forward and back and have a view both ways, then you say they only see in one direction. Please explain. JimAOk1945 Posted April 15, 2015 #14 Share Posted April 15, 2015 We enjoyed being in a "hump" stateroom. If you're interested in seeing pictures, my wife took quite a few of our room, the balcony, and a view looking up at the ship as we tendered into port. These give you a very good perspective of how that part of the ship is shaped into a bump out area. Here is the link to the room slide show. We were in OS 1320 on Mariner of the Seas. She took these pictures and made them into a slide show for her website Owner's Suite 1320
330searay Posted April 15, 2015 #15 Share Posted April 15, 2015 We try to always get a hump, bubble, bump(Unless we are utilizing an Aft suite) Lol You CAN see 3 directions from these rooms. You see 1 direction in the non-bubble,hump,bump rooms.

Ones toward the front or back of the hump are obscured from seeing in one direction by the hump itself.
330searay Posted April 15, 2015 #17 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Your probably right about that but im not sure. I have always booked toward the center. Either way the visibility is better than the alternative. Dan
dacsmom Posted April 15, 2015 #18 Share Posted April 15, 2015 What?? First you say people on these balconies can look forward and back and have a view both ways, then you say they only see in one direction. Please explain. I have a hump balcony on the Freedom in March. Center hump can see both ways, cabins coming off the hump can see only one way. Anywhere on the hump is great. In any balcony, you have to lean a bit to see out, even on a hump balcony you will not be able to sit in a chair and see both ways because of the dividers. Have fun on the freedom, she is a great ship.
