Theft in stateroom on Carnival

I would say it is more than likely not the cabin attendant as you assumed. They do clean and sometimes walk down the hall to their cart, or they have their heads in the bathroom and its easy for another pax to zip in and out and grab something if you left it in plain site.

It could have been anyone who stole from your cabin.

bet you had private insurance on such a valuable piece right?

Just wondering why she needed to bring the necklace anyway? She certainly didn't need to impress you.

So the only reason she would wear something nice is to impress someone. You obviously do not purchase jewelry for women.

You or spouse take all those cruises and you don't wear any bling? When do you wear it? If no one can see it, what good is it.

DH and I have only taken 4 cruises, check out the dates and you will figure out that we as a family are doing Disney quite often! LOL. Most of my travels were when I was footloose and fancy free!

Also, we all travel light as well. We are responsible for 4 children when we travel so formality is just for the great posed pix we get...the girls are the ones everyone looks at anyway. For me, no gowns, no way...just simple silk outfits...DH wears a suit. that's all.

With our day to day life, dressing up to go out is a rarity, and we like it that way.....too many schedule's to keep track of anyway.

Also, as I mentioned, I decided to forgo the ring in order to cruise the Med, the girls are still ranting about how fabulous it was....even the 8yo can remember the details. DD #1 will be studying in Italy this summer.......so caring about bling, although I like it (a lot) is on the backburner for now! Oh well, you do what ya gotta do.LOL;)

It is so easy to steal on a cruise ship if you wanted to . Two weeks ago i was on the carnival liberty I left the pool to go back to my room. When i arrived the door was propped open and my cabin steward was in the next cabin talking to the passenger.i guess she had a question or problem . I went in got my sunblock exited the cabin and started down the hall . when it hit any one can walk in .I went back and closed it so he would here it and he did not come out to see who it was .So my point here is anyone could distract him so they could get in you cabin and take what was laying around .. Awalys use the safe or hide in your dirty underwareicon10.gif

Having a lot of experience with Carnival and cruising, I too would bet fellow cruising "associates" are probably the culprits than a Carnival employee.

I would suggest that you file a claim with your homeowner's insurance.

Sorry to hear about your loss

but yeah

it could have been anyone ...

the stewards do leave those doors open while they are working .

Heck people steal towels right on the Lido deck... that is the place to watch your stuff...

I had a towel taken ...while I was watching ...oh yeah !!

dude denied that it was mine though

and my friend had her camera stolen right there on the deck...

along with all her pics as it was digital ...

you definately have to watch your stuff

I have never had a problem yet

with stuff in my cabin , thank goodness for that

(knocking on wood now , ok?)

My wife had a $3,000 diamon necklace stolen on our Carnival cruise in March. Our fault we forgot to put it in the safe. Stuff happens and you move on. We never mentioned it to anyone at Carnival. What's the point?

Are you serious - you had $3000 worth of jewelry stolen and didn't mention it???

You should have immediately contacted ship security. For that amount of theft, I am sure there would have been an investigation. If the necklace ever got recovered, they wouldn't even know who to give it to. I disagree with not mentioning it, especially for that amount of dough. Three grand is too much to chalk up to "stuff happens".

I too leave all valuables at home even my wedding band. I have been mugged once and stabbed on another occasion. Never had a problem on a cruise ship though or on vacation at all.

I do know someone who had their engagement ring stolen on a Med cruise though. she took it off and left it on the desk or table while getting ready and forgot about it and then went to dinner. Halfway through dinner she realized she did not have it and ran back to the cabin. The ring was gone and the cruiseline took no responsibility (as probably they say in some of the documents). Her house insurance did cover the cost to the tune of double what she paid. To tell you the truth it has crossed my mind that this was made up to collect the money.

Anyway if it happens you will only be reimbursed by insurance if you file a report with the cruise line security.

Why in the world would you not use your safe while on a cruise for cash and valuables? I can see forgetting to put something in there but to never use it and leave your stuff out? That's just asking for trouble IMHO. BTW I have lots of nice jewelry but leave it at home when I cruise. Only take the fake stuff . I wear the real stuff at home. Some of my fake things look as good or better than my real gems!

While on spring break several of us had valuables stolen out of our stateroom. Management said they investigated and could find no one liable (probably means they fired the stateroom attendant). They said since extra insurance was not purchased to cover contents in the stateroom, they are not responsible.

I'm interested in knowing if anyone else has ever had this experience and how was it handled by the cruise company.:(

If someone took your items, that is horrible and I am sorry! However, have you entertained the thought that you just misplaced them? I have left all typed of things out, and they have never been bothered, so I completely trust the stateroom attendant. Besides, would you commit a crime if you knew you would be the first one looked at?

The reason the cruiseline takes no responsibility is that a cruiser could be lying to them (I know, shocking that people would lie;)). While someone could also lie to their insurance company, too many claims just raises your rates and can affect your ability to get more insurance. Claiming a theft on a cruise ship could be very profitable for some of our less than honest fellow vacationers. I lock up everything of value that would easy to steal/pocket (jewelry, money, cameras). Plus, there's the fact no one should assume it's a crew member. Too often people can walk right into a room being cleaned and simply state they made a mistake if caught in a room that isn't theirs. There's just too many scenarios.

I do take my real jewelry and the more expensive pieces have riders on my insurance while the rest is covered under homeowners. I feel that if I have it, I'm going to wear it. I also never, ever leave my rings anywhere except on my hand or in the safe while on vacation. I also never forget to put them on. I've been married 28 years and I've never left home or vacation room without my rings on.

Check you homeowner insurance or your credit card insurance if you have a premium card. It will depend on the value of the loss and the deductable. Start with the cc as it will not impact any insurance rates that you currently have.

You can purchase extra insurance to cover contents in your stateroom and Carnival would be responsible:confused:

I guess they take responsibility when you have the insurance and make the insurance company pay the claim.

Hey as long as we don't have to pay, sure we'll take responsibility.:p

In 17 cruises we've never had anything stolen. Cash, passports & jewelry go in the safe...everything else is just left out...cameras, laptop, a bucket of quarters from the casino (back in the day before paper printouts ;)).

I just can't imagine a cabin steward risking his/her job by stealing.

I even left Wendy alone in the Cabin and she was still there
