Rare Presto2 Posted July 22, 2017 #76 Share Posted July 22, 2017 Oh that sail away that's delayed because they haven't managed to get everyone on board due to the late boarding times, and as a result the late muster drill :) Too late for me. That 'sparkly' is at least the 3rd of my cruise vacation on other lines (and that includes the welcome on board 'sparkly' on Celebrity at around 11:30 for all not just the higher loyalty club members). :) Now, behave Pete ;-) We love Celebrity and P&O too, like you (and want to get on early) so are just happy to be on holiday ;-) Had some great cruises on both ! P.S. I didn't dare say earlier that we had had a drink before sailaway incase we accused of having an AI package and just wanted to drink a lot ..... Wasn't having a dig at you, just the farce that is P&Os embarkation process that results in delays in muster drill and sailaway. Oh I don't dare say I have a premium beverage package either hic :)

Rare Eglesbrech Posted July 22, 2017 #79 Share Posted July 22, 2017 I saw the same couple of one cruise, making mountains of sandwiches at breakfast to take out for the day. Don't people like to try anything local when they are out? It was quite disgusting to watch. Not only is it crass but in the heat of most places it is likely to result in food poisoning. I'm with you Jean, I like to try local food when off the ship. In terms of disembarkation what is the latest time that people have got off? Jayneykul Posted July 22, 2017 Author #82 Share Posted July 22, 2017 I can assure you that wanting to get on the ship earlier was not with the intention to feed my face purely to prevent hanging around killing time which I hate nor have I EVER taken food from a buffet! I got home a few hours ago and completed my survey to say totally satisfied with the embarkation process unlike other aspects of the cruise but that's for another day
Catherine Janaway Posted July 22, 2017 #83 Share Posted July 22, 2017 The more that go aboard earlier the quicker those of us who get there the published time. I think it is true that if you travel by car it is hard to judge how long it will take especially if there is traffic/road works. I will take my Kindle and wait my turn to be called. It is a bit unfair if those travelling by coach are called first though.

NSWP Posted July 23, 2017 #86 Share Posted July 23, 2017 Please don't take this the wrong way but why the rush? Is this all to get lunch on the 1st day? Of course. We are mere Mediterranean level, so wait our turn, don't care if we are last on. When we fly from Sydney to LHR, we often have 4 or 5 hours in transit at the airports between flights, so an hour or so in a cruise terminal is no big deal. NSWP Posted July 23, 2017 #87 Share Posted July 23, 2017 You are Caribou level so your boarding experience does not count.;pI think maybe P&O recruit from the veterans branch of the WI for their check in staff.;) (Awaiting inbound) I would have thought the P&O staff are retired veterans from ye olde Napoleonic Wars, pen and quill job. I should not say that, P&O kindly just gave me Military OBC.
NSWP Posted July 23, 2017 #88 Share Posted July 23, 2017 Getting off Oceana one year I remember seeing a couple with a whole watermelon in their sports bag, where they got it from lord only knows. Strewth, if they did that in Sydney, Quarantine Service and Customs would have them in leg irons and deported back to Mother England on the next Cunard/P&O ship in port.:p

Florry Posted July 23, 2017 #90 Share Posted July 23, 2017 My heart sinks when I read some of the judgemental comments here. I'm not saying it's always the case but there are lots of reasons people might take food with them and it's not always about being thrifty. As an example I have a good allergy which is never catered for on P&O trips, I have sailed with passengers who need to eat at a certain time to take medication and those with diabetes who may need to have food handy. So please think twice before making sweeping judgements - you never know when it might happen to you..... Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Sent from my iPhone using Forums I am diabetic but wouldn't take the food with me I'd put my hand in my pocket and buy something. I also take provisions 'just in case'. (bought myself) While you may get the odd person who need the food the majority just want to save money. If it were the 'odd' person, I doubt it would even be mentioned, this is NOT the case, so some may say I am being judgmental, I would say more of a realist :D

Sent from my Kestrel using Forums mobile app That is what you do, I do regular tests and eat accordingly, if I've eaten a few lush desserts it will be on the high side!! ;p The truth is there are some people who pay for the cruise and rarely spend anything more, other's will pay to eat at specialist restaurants and buy food at ports - there are all sorts. Personally I wouldn't be nabbing food from the buffet breakfasts to make sandwiches to save a few £ it wouldn't be me. If some people feel they have valid reasons for doing so well so be it. I have to admit I did like going to the restaurant for breakfast as I remember they did a delicious kedgeree :p
